Job Title: Teacher PTECH Dual Credit GOVT 2306

Reports To: Campus Principal PTECH Coordinator

Pay Grade: Teacher Pay Step Scale

Workdays: 187

Minimum Salary: $60,000

Type of Assignment: Exempt

Mid-Point Salary: NA

Contract Status: Chapter 21

Funding: This position is locally funded. Consideration for directly related experience supported by an official service record or experience affidavit. Annualized pay may be pro-rated based on actual start date.

Position Summary:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

This position will be teaching the Texas Government course at Boerne HS in the Health Science PTECH program and taught in conjunction with San Antonio College SAC.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors degree from an accredited university.

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for the subject and level assigned.

Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.

Physical Education Teachers:

Current automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate.

Boerne ISD requires all Math Science Social Studies English and Special Education teachers to have ESL certification. If you do not hold the ESL requirement already, you will be required to obtain it during your 1st year of teaching.

Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee approximately $50.00 paid by the candidate.

San Antonio College Minimum Requirements to teach GOVT 2306:

Masters degree in political science or related field or

Masters degree in any discipline with eighteen (18) graduate hours of political science.

The accepted course disciplines are comparative politics, government, international relations, political economy, politics, public administration, public affairs, public management, and public policy.

Candidate must be approved by San Antonio College.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of core academic subject assigned.

Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Essential Functions:

Instructional Strategies:

Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.

Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual students differences.

Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.

Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.

Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).

Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.

Plan and assign work to the instructional aides and volunteers and oversee completion.

Student Growth and Development:

Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.

Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.

Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.

Classroom Management and Organization:

Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

Communication:

Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

Professional Growth and Development:

Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.

Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Direct the work of assigned instructional aides.

Working Conditions:

Tools and equipment used: standard office and instructional equipment, including personal computer and peripherals.

Posture: Prolonged standing, frequent walking, sitting, occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, pushing, pulling, and twisting.

Motion repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse. Occasional reaching.

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying less than 15 pounds may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment.

Environment: Work inside, may work outside, regular exposure to noise.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions and prolonged or irregular hours.
