MUSIC TEACHERQUALIFICATIONSProperly certified in all areas of assignmentDemonstrate cooperativeness and willingness to carry out assigned tasks and perform responsibilitiesBilingual endorsement if highly preferable.Other qualifications determined necessary by the Board.REPORTS TO Principal or designeeGENERAL SUPERVISOR SuperintendentJOB GOAL To develop in each pupil an appreciation of the art of music as part of general culture to teach techniques of vocal or instrumental music expression to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music to develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIESTeach skills in music appreciation harmony and explorations in music and in instrumental music band orchestra instrumental ensemble and choral music chorus choir choral ensemble to Middle and High School students. Utilize the teaching competencies and curriculumbilingual curriculum adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.Instruct pupils in citizenship expected student behavior and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.Plan a balanced music program and organize daily class time so that preparation rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished with the allotted time.Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.Control the storage and use of school-owned property make minor adjustments and request repairs to instruments as required.Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly productive environment during practice group rehearsals and musical performances.Evaluate each pupil&rsquos musical growth and performance assessing each individual&rsquos contribution to the performance of the group.Plan rehearses and directs pupils in musical programs for school and communitySelect and requisition books musical instruments instructional aids and maintain required inventory records.Communicate with parents bi-weekly monthly or sooner as the need arises on a students progress and behavior.Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health attitude and learning problems.Cooperate with the school administration in providing musical programs for school productions graduation ceremonies and civic functions.Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.Participate in curriculum alignment benchmarks performance standardsassessments and revisions inclusive of bilingual development programs and implement EPSS.Gather data to develop strategies for student improvementParticipate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities to include in and out of school activities.Maintain professional competencies through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which heshe will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.Administer Group Standardized Tests in accordance with the district testing program.Administer the Language Assessment Scale Testing and Scoring in both English and Spanish.Attend board meetings at the request of the Superintendent andor his authorized designee.Perform other assigned tasks required by the supervisors.TERM OF EMPLOYMENTTerms of employment are to be established on an annual basis through the adoption of the school calendar.SALARYSalary to be established on an annual basis through the adoption of the salary schedules.EVALUATIONPerformance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board&rsquos policyTeacher - ArtPosition Title Teacher High SchoolDepartment ArtReports To PrincipalSUMMARYTo help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature able and responsible men and women.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.Teaches district-approved art curriculum.Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs interests and abilities of the students.Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons units projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students.Evaluates pupils academic and social growth keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESSupervises classroom students instructional assistants and volunteers.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSTo perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
