The primary role of the English Teacher at Cathedral Home is to educate, supervise, and foster meaningful relationships with youth. This position involves recognizing the unique needs of each student, many of whom require targeted remediation and individualized support to enhance their skills. The teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and welcoming learning environment, guiding students in their academic and personal development, and preparing them for successful re-entry into public schools.

  • Planning and preparing daily lessons that address individual students' needs.
  • Creating a classroom environment of respect, rapport, and positive relationships. Establishing classroom procedures.
  • Managing student behavior.
  • Communicating clearly and accurately while using a variety of teaching techniques.
  • Engaging students in learning.
  • Providing clear, timely feedback to students and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness.
  • Reflecting on teaching and learning.
  • Assessing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Contributing to positive school staff culture.
  • Developing professional goals for improvement and participating in continuing education.
  • Demonstrating professionalism in dress, language, timeliness, communications, etc.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of safety procedures and applying said procedures.
  • Knowledge of agency regulations and requirements.
  • Use of prevention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Utilizing and modeling appropriate classroom management.Supporting and using accommodations, modifications, and goal-setting measures for student IEPs.
  • Meeting the needs of every student - objectives, goals, measures, data collection, and analysis.
  • Perform other duties assigned, with flexibility for changes.
