Position: Teacher (CTE- Information, Technology Education)

Location: Lincoln County School of Technology

Terms of Contract: 10 months, full-time, benefit eligible

Reports To: Principal

Monthly Salary: Teacher State Salary Schedule (plus local supplement)

FLSA: EXEMPT

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree - Business, Information Technology or a related degree such as Computer Science, Cybersecurity, and Information and Computer Technology; must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in the appropriate licensure area.
  • 760 - Business, Finance and Information Technology Education
  • 765 - Information Technology Education
  • The successful candidate must complete the 40-hour NC DPI New Teacher Induction Program during the first year of employment; AND
  • Additional coursework to complete NC licensure requirements

Goal: To prepare students for postsecondary education and careers and provide students with the meaningful and engaging instruction for and about computer science, information technology and cybersecurity/network security. Instruction in Business and Information Technology encompasses business skills and techniques, an understanding of basic computer science and network security issues in industry and workforce, an understanding of socioeconomic decisions and providing services for various industries related to computer science and network security. Business and Information Technology education plays a key role in preparing a competent, business-literate, and skilled workforce for the 21st century. To develop inquiry-based, critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they relate to the accelerated shifts taking place in the business world and how these changes impact the skills, attitudes and abilities needed for success in today's workplace.

Duties:

  • Teach knowledge and skills in one or more of the following subjects to secondary pupils: Cybersecurity/Network Security, Computer Science, and Computer Engineering. Use the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and CTE Essential Standards adopted by the State Board of Education to plan appropriate instructional activities
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district
  • Develop lesson plans and organize synchronous instruction so that demonstration, instruction, and practice can be completed within the allotted time
  • Participate in Career & Technical Education professional development opportunities locally and at the state level to ensure continuous improvement and further understanding of the program area
  • Prepare appropriate instructional aids and display materials, including digital instruction, to enhance learning
  • Maintain an auditable record of pupil attendance and make daily reports
  • Control assigned district-owned classroom equipment to prevent loss or abuse
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the laboratory-type classroom where several kinds of activities may be taking place simultaneously
  • Instruct pupils in importance of soft skills in the workplace in today's business world
  • Evaluate each pupil's performance, knowledge, and skills in courses being taught and prepare pupil progress reports and employment references
  • Maintain continued contact with the business community to keep in touch with job entry requirements
  • Maintain required CTE inventory records
  • Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
  • Other duties as assigned
