Role and Responsibilities
- Convene, chair and facilitate IEP team meetings in compliance with IDEA and MARSE; develop, implement and monitor IEP goals and specially designed instruction aligned to individual student needs.
- Coordinate and oversee special education compliance processes, including REEDs, METs, IEPs, FBAs, BIPs, MDRs and Transition Plans.
- Participate as a multidisciplinary team member in initial evaluations and reevaluations; administer, score and interpret comprehensive achievement assessments for annual and three-year reviews.
- Analyze evaluation and progress-monitoring data to support eligibility determinations, data-based LRE decisions and planning for movement toward less restrictive when appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with general education teachers to provide Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) and meet Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) requirements for students with disabilities.
- Ability to provide consultative assistance to classroom teachers or other staff on differentiation, accommodations, modifications, and best practice interventions.
- Facilitate inclusion of students with disabilities through ongoing communication with administration and the general education staff.
- Interpret special education policies, procedures, and guidelines to regular educational personnel.
- Assessing students with disabilities for identification and teaching.
- Provide continuous staff development training to staff.
- Collaborate with general education and special education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, counselors, and administrators to support instructional, behavioral and transition programming.
- Deliver specialized intervention and student support services to students with IEPs and/or Nonpublic Service Plans within the resource room setting as well as within the general education classroom.
- Ability to evaluate students' current levels of academic performance using district standard for Special Education Testing (iReady/DRA) and assessment data of progress towards IEP goals and the curriculum.
- Ability to plan, organize, schedule and facilitate parent meetings such as parent teacher conferences and IEPs/Nonpublic Service Plans.
- Write measurable goals and objectives for each student as mandated by Federal, State and County agencies.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with parents/guardians, staff, administrators, and outside agencies regarding student needs, programming options, and agency supports.
- Maintain accurate, complete and timely documentation and records in accordance with district policies, procedures, and IDEA requirements.
- Coordinate, collaborate and oversee necessary preparation for students requiring accommodations for State Testing.
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Minimum of a Master's degree in education or a field of study related to special education.
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in an area of special education.
- Show evidence of a minimum of 3 years satisfactory teaching experience in a special education program.
Working Schedule and Rate of Pay:
40 week per year position (teacher work calendar)
Salary according to master contract
