Teacher’s Assistant – Manhattan Location

Position Overview

We are seeking dependable and compassionate Teacher’s Assistants to support students within structured educational environments. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children and contributing to a supportive classroom setting.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Level 1 Certified Teacher’s Assistant (or higher)
  • Minimum 6 months of TA experience preferred
  • Must be fingerprinted, or willing to be fingerprinted, by the Board of Education (costs paid by candidate)
  • Must be registered on the TEACH website
  • Certified completion of Domestic Violence and Child Abuse courses
  • Pre-employment Physical Exam (within one year), including documentation of: PPD, MMR, TDAP, Varicella

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of a Teacher, the Teacher’s Assistant supports classroom activities and provides educational and personal care assistance to students as needed. The role involves both instructional support and student supervision responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom and programmatic support to assigned students
  • Assist with lesson preparation and classroom activities
  • Support supervision of students in classroom and assigned areas
  • Perform clerical and administrative classroom tasks
  • Participate in case conferences and team discussions as needed
  • Maintain student dignity, confidentiality, and safety at all times
  • Ensure timely completion of required documentation and progress notes
  • Follow established classroom schedules and routines
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized classroom
  • Implement universal precautions and safety procedures
  • Assist with toileting, feeding, and personal care as required
  • Support student arrival, departure, and transitions
  • Participate in off-site or extracurricular activities when required
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service trainings
  • Assist with transporting students between buses and building as requested
