Primary Purpose:
To provide a well-organized smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
Qualifications: Education/Certification:
- High School diploma
- Obtain Paraprofessional certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to work well with children and adolescents
- Knowledge of computers and general office equipment
Experience: Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assists the teacher in classroom instructional activities and computer software.
- Monitors student behavior and reports problems and related circumstances to teacher.
- Assists teacher with implementation of behavior management systems.
- Assists pupils in need of special attention including health, hygiene and feeding as appropriate.
- Prepares instructional materials under teacher direction.
- Assists in administration of teacher made tests.
- Checks, marks, and corrects pupils work according to specific teacher instruction.
- Performs clerical and ARD-related duties as needed:
- Assists with supervision of students during field trips and other special activities, lunch, recess, restroom breaks, and bus related times.
- Works with special education students in the regular classroom as required by IEP's.
- Supervises children in regular classroom while teacher attends ARD meeting.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding students and their records at all times.
- Provides physical restraint as per AISD policy using approved crisis intervention methods.
- Maintains emotional control and models effective coping skills, e.g. calm, low voice, neutral facial expression, non-challenging and non-argumentative interactions with students, polite precise requests and quiet requests to teacher for assistance if problems are noted.
- Attends training as required.
- Performs other duties as the superintendent may assign.

- Provide professional communication with students, parents, community members, staff and other professionals at all times.
- Use proper phone etiquette at all times, speaking slowly and clearly. Take reliable messages, and route to appropriate staff.
- Ensure superior customer care skills are used via eye contact, facial expressions, voice inflections, body language, and an attitude of "going the extra mile" for others.
- Ensure all requests for information are dealt with in an appropriate timeframe.
- Create and maintain a welcoming, service-oriented environment toward all internal and external customers.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.
Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

Salary: Pay Grade IS02,$16.85-$19.90 hourly rate commensurate with experience according to District salary schedule.
