Position Title: Teacher Assistant GSRP
Funding Source: General Fund
Reports to: This position reports to and is evaluated by the School Principal
Qualifications:
Possess and provide evidence of High School Diploma or GED certification
Past experience working with pre-school or school age youth.
Demonstrated ability to work well with students, families and staff.
Required to obtain 24 hours of Professional Development per school year including but not limited to: CPR/First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogen, Food Safety, Diversity and Licensing as appropriate
Position Description: The Teacher Assistant provides in-classroom assistance to both students and the Lead Teacher to help facilitate a positive learning environment. The Teacher Assistant collaborates with families and other staff members to ensure academic success of students. Physical Requirements: Light Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects; Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling.
Terms of Employment: Part-Time, 35 hours/week. Salary shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the School Principal in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Greet and welcome children into the learning environment daily; assist children with coats/boots/backpacks during arrival and dismissal
Assist with set up and organization of classroom materials for instruction
Prepare materials and assist in classroom instruction under direction of the lead or associate teacher
Encourage and support children’s participation in classroom activities
Support the lead and associate teacher in completion of paperwork and forms
Assist and accompany the lead teacher on home visits, field trips, and any other out of the classroom learning opportunities
Participate in conferences with families
Maintain positive, proactive communication with families on a regular basis.
Assist with classroom upkeep and management
Work with small groups of students or individuals throughout daily schedule under the supervision/direction of the lead teacher
Assist with and participate in meal service and clean up
Record anecdotal notes on students daily and assist teacher with data entry
Support the maintenance of a classroom environment that is safe, sanitary, supportive, inclusive, conducive to learning and developmentally appropriate for learners.
Assist with following all protocols for diapering, feeding, safe sleep, and active supervision in accordance with licensing and Early Head Start standards.
Supervise children’s indoor and outdoor playtime
Attend in-service training, activities, and professional development related to your job description as directed
Work with school leaders and/or instructional coaches to identify and work towards professional growth goals
Follow and adhere to the procedures and guidelines of the Early Childhood Department, State of Michigan Licensing (LARA), Wayne County RESA, GSRP, and Michigan Department of Education (MDE)
Exhibit professionalism, leadership, and personal responsibility for daily work and attendance, personal appearance, student learning, and school success
Demonstrate collegial behavior and make positive contributions to the school community
Follow all established district policies, procedures, and codes of conduct.
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher, Principal, and Administration.
