Teacher Assistant - ESL and Migrant Education Program Reports to: ESL Teacher Principal, Migrant Education Coordinator

Job Summary: The Teacher Assistant for the ESL and Migrant Education Program supports classroom instruction and program activities designed to assist English Language Learners (ELL) and migrant students. This position works closely with classroom teachers and program coordinators to provide academic support, help students develop English language skills, and ensure program documentation, such as monthly reports and timesheets, are completed accurately and on time.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Support: • Assist teachers in delivering instructional activities for ESL and migrant students. • Provide small-group or one-on-one support to help students improve English language development, literacy, and academic skills. • Reinforce lessons introduced by the teacher and help students complete assignments. • Support students in understanding classroom instructions and learning materials while encouraging participation and positive behavior.

Program Support: • Assist with activities related to the Migrant Education Program and ESL services. • Help prepare instructional materials, learning aids, and classroom resources. • Maintain confidentiality of student information and program records. • Work collaboratively with teachers and Migrant Education staff, and communicate effectively regarding student progress and needs. • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and program planning when required. • Obtain/maintain a bus license and drive a bus when needed. • May be required to travel to other schools within the district as needed to support the Migrant Education Program and assist migrant students and staff at those locations. • Document student participation, activities, and services, and assist program coordinators with required documentation for program compliance.

Documentation Skills and Competencies:

• Prepare and submit monthly reports and timesheets according to program guidelines and deadlines. • Build positive relationships with students and families. • Strong computer skills to maintain records, complete program documentation, and meet reporting deadlines. • Demonstrate the physical ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and dexterity required to perform the duties of the position.

Qualifications:

• An Associate degree or 48 semester hours from an accredited college or university. • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required. • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.

Work Schedule: Full-time, ten-month school year. Hours may include regular school hours and occasional after-school program support.
