PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide specialized instruction in culinary arts, food service, independent living skills, and career readiness for students with disabilities. Prepare students for greater independence, employment opportunities, and successful adult living by developing functional life skills, workplace behaviors, food preparation competencies, and community participation skills in a structured and supportive environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Valid Texas teaching certificate appropriate for assignment
Career and Technical Education (CTE) certification
Special Education certification preferred
Experience in culinary arts, food service, hospitality, transition services, or vocational training preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of food preparation, kitchen safety, sanitation, and commercial food service operations
Knowledge of transition planning and vocational skill development for students with disabilities
Understanding of IEP implementation and accommodations for diverse learners
Ability to develop and implement functional, hands-on learning experiences
Ability to manage student behavior using proactive and positive behavior supports
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with families, community partners, and multidisciplinary teams
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Probationary/Term Contract: 187 days
SALARY:
Pay Grade T60 (Teacher Classification) as approved by the Board of Trustees

Instructional Planning and Delivery
Develop and implement engaging lessons focused on culinary arts, food service, nutrition, personal finance, independent living, and career readiness
Provide instruction aligned with student IEP goals, transition plans, and post-secondary outcomes
Create hands-on learning opportunities that promote student independence and real-world skill development
Differentiate instruction to meet the unique learning needs of students with disabilities
Integrate workplace readiness skills including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and professionalism
Student Growth and Development
Monitor and assess student progress toward academic, functional, vocational, and transition goals
Utilize formal and informal assessment data to guide instruction and support student growth
Support students in developing self-advocacy, independence, and employability skills
Prepare students for community-based instruction, job exploration, and work-based learning opportunities
Culinary Arts and Food Service Operations
Teach proper food handling, preparation, sanitation, and safety procedures
Supervise students in food preparation, service, and kitchen operations
Maintain compliance with district, local, and state health and safety standards
Manage classroom inventory, equipment, and supplies
Develop opportunities for students to participate in school-based enterprises, catering activities, or simulated workplace experiences when appropriate
Classroom Environment and Behavior Support
Establish a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment
Implement behavior supports and interventions consistent with student IEPs and Behavior Intervention Plans
Maintain high expectations while supporting student social, emotional, and behavioral growth
Utilize de-escalation and crisis prevention strategies when needed
Collaboration and Communication
Collaborate with special education teachers, related service providers, administrators, families, and community partners
Participate in ARD meetings and transition planning meetings as required
Maintain open communication regarding student progress and vocational development
Assist in identifying community partnerships and employment opportunities for students
Professional Responsibilities
Maintain required certifications and professional development
Participate in campus and district training opportunities
Comply with all federal, state, district, and special education regulations
Maintain accurate records, student data, and required documentation
Other
Comply with federal, state, and local regulations related to the occupational area assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise instructional aides, job coaches, volunteers, and students participating in culinary and vocational activities
