Job Details

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Serve as the primary tax contact for assigned monthly accounting clients and provide proactive year-round tax support
  • Coordinate with accounting/bookkeeping teams to ensure monthly financials support accurate tax reporting and planning
  • Manage engagement timelines, deliverables, and client communication for assigned accounts
  • Prepare and/or review federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals, businesses, and trust/estate clients as applicable
  • Ensure timely and accurate filings, extensions, elections, workpapers, and documentation standards
  • Resolve tax notices, correspondence, and related issues while advising clients on next steps
  • Prepare tax projections and scenario analyses and explain expected tax outcomes to clients
  • Calculate and communicate quarterly estimates and annual extension payments
  • Lead tax planning efforts including entity structuring, compensation planning, deductions/credits, multi-state tax issues, and year-end strategies
  • Review returns prepared by other team members for technical accuracy, completeness, and risk
  • Provide review notes, technical guidance, and support consistent quality standards across the firm
  • Drive process improvements and help develop junior staff

You should have most of the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA license preferred or EA preferred
  • Minimum 6+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting or a client-service tax environment
  • Experience managing multiple client relationships and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong background in tax compliance, tax planning, projections, estimates, and tax return review
  • Experience preparing and reviewing federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals, businesses, and trust/estate clients
  • Strong technical tax research skills and ability to document judgment calls clearly
  • Proven ability to communicate tax concepts to non-tax clients in a clear, practical way
  • Experience mentoring staff and providing technical review guidance
  • Comfortable working with accounting teams and coordinating monthly financial data for tax planning and reporting
  • Ability to commute to Boulder, CO for an in-person role
