Penda Aiken inc. is a staffing firm located in Brooklyn New York. Our client is a New York State Agency and is seeking a detail-oriented Tax and Insurance Accountant for a 3-to-6-month temporary assignment. This role is responsible for the precise execution of fiscal duties within the Office of Professional Services, specifically focusing on treasury services, escrow management, and financial reporting to support large-scale community development projects.
Primary Job Duties

  • Payment & Escrow Management: Process all tax and insurance payments and maintain the T&I tickler report to ensure zero lapses in coverage or tax penalties.

  • Analysis & Reporting: Prepare comprehensive tax, insurance, and reserve-for-replacement analysis reports.

  • Financial Reconciliation: Reconcile T&I clearing accounts and verify bank transactions against source documents to ensure ledger integrity.

  • Departmental Liaison: Provide the Asset Management Department with regular updates on outstanding project T&I bills.

  • General Ledger Oversight: Review bank statements, follow up on outstanding items, and audit transaction postings to the General Ledger from EBS.

  • Tax Compliance: Prepare and organize annual 1099 tax filing reports.
Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.

  • Experience: 2–4 years of related accounting experience. Prior experience in government, non-profit, or real estate finance is highly preferred.

  • Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of GAAP and experience with financial securities, mortgages, municipal bond financing, and escrow account functions.

  • Systems: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Advanced Excel); experience with Tier 1 ERP systems is a plus.
