Position Specific Description

As a Tax Analyst specializing in Sales and Use Tax at NextEra Energy, you will serve as a key contributor to our tax compliance team, ensuring adherence to state and local tax regulations across our diverse energy portfolio. You will be responsible for preparing tax filings, conducting research and analysis, supporting audit activities, and contributing to tax automation initiatives. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in indirect taxation while supporting a leading clean-energy companys continued growth in a rapidly evolving tax landscape.

You will perform financial and transactional analysis, support compliance activities, prepare tax returns and filings, and assist with process improvement initiatives. This role requires strong analytical capabilities, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic team environment while managing multiple priorities.

Primary duties can include but are not limited to the following:

  • Prepare and file monthly sales and use tax, municipal utility, franchise, and gross receipts tax returns for assigned jurisdictions.
  • Conduct tax research and analysis to support compliance decisions and business inquiries.
  • Monitor tax law changes and assess their potential impact on company operations.
  • Prepare sales and use tax registrations and license renewals.
  • Maintain sales tax compliance calendar and ensure timely filing deadlines are met.
  • Review and respond to tax notices and correspondence from taxing authorities.
  • Maintain exemption certificate management system and prepare certificates as needed.
  • Support audit activities by preparing documentation and assisting with data requests.
  • Perform account reconciliations and variance analysis for indirect tax accounts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address tax implications of business transactions.
  • Assist with tax automation initiatives and system implementations.
  • Support process improvement projects to enhance compliance efficiency.
  • Monitor and respond to requests through the indirect tax teams support system.

Job Overview

This job is responsible for moderate to complex projects associated with the maintenance of tax records and the preparation of all or specifically assigned tax returns, separate company corporate income tax and partnership tax returns, consolidated tax returns and related reports.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepares and reviews federal/state/local income tax returns, schedules, extensions and payment estimates in line with the company's tax filing calendar
  • Conducts financial and economic analyses, developing and preparing the organization's financial plans and budgets and interpreting financial reports and tax returns
  • Researches inquiries from government agencies regarding filings, compliance, and other claims
  • Prepares tax calculations to support tax controversy analyses
  • Conducts tax assumptions in project models
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Experience: 2+ years
