Tax Accountant

Horizon Retail Construction is a nationally recognized general contractor specializing in tenant improvement. We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and driven Tax Accountant to join the team at our corporate headquarters in Sturtevant, Wisconsin. Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and review sales/use tax returns
• Research and interpret state and local tax laws and regulations
• Manage state sales and use tax audits and respond to notices
• Support tax planning strategies to minimize liabilities across jurisdictions
• Maintain compliance calendars and filing deadlines
• Collaborate with internal teams on tax-related issues
• Stay current on changes in state sales and use tax laws and SALT developments
• Vendor W-9 verification
• Manage income and franchise tax payments provided by external accounting firm

Summary of Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• CPA or CPA-eligible preferred
• 5+ years of experience in state and local tax
• Strong understanding of multistate taxation principles
• Experience with tax software (e.g. Avalara, Sage) preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in public accounting or corporate tax department
• Knowledge of sales & use tax and indirect tax compliance
• Familiarity with tax research tools (e.g. Avalara)
