Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Tape Librarian to manage and maintain the inventory of magnetic computer tapes, NAS devices, and USB storage media within a secure data management environment. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity, organization, tracking, and distribution of physical storage media while supporting daily data operations and client deliverables.

 

Job Description

  • Perform
  • Serve as the primary resource for tape library projects and daily media management activities.
  • Coordinate and manage tape pools, including creating, expanding, reducing, and labeling media inventories.
  • Perform final quality verification of disks and tapes prior to client shipment.
  • Register and document all incoming storage media.
  • Retrieve, sort, file, and organize media for internal departments and archive operations.
  • Prepare, package, and stage media for outgoing shipments.
  • Quality check, label, and properly file incoming media.
  • Load and eject media within automated tape library systems based on operational requirements.
  • Perform routine maintenance and organization of the tape library.
  • Investigate and locate missing or misplaced media, coordinating findings with supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate media inventory records using database and tape management systems.
  • Resolve media catalog issues for internal users and archive personnel.
  • Manage media error reporting, documenting soft and hard media errors in the appropriate systems.
  • Generate inventory, utilization, and operational reports as required.
  • Perform database searches to locate archived media and support retrieval requests.
  • Coordinate with computer operations teams to meet daily media requirements.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and preservation procedures for all computer tapes and storage media.
  • Maintain compliance with established work procedures, quality assurance standards, and departmental policies.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Shift: 8:00 am - 5.00 pm.

 

Skills Required

  • 3–5 years of experience in tape library operations, tape technician roles, or computer operations.
  • Experience working with physical media inventory and data storage environments.
  • Strong understanding of tape library operations and media lifecycle management.
  • Experience working with database systems and inventory management tools.
  • Knowledge of tape management systems such as MMS or similar technologies.
  • Strong computer proficiency and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience training or assisting backup personnel is preferred.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and retrieve media throughout the workday.
  • Minimal local travel may be required.

 

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree is a plus.

 

Pay Rate

  • $25 per hour (Compensation will be offered within this posted range based on experience, skills, and market factors)
