NorthHill Technology Resources has a need for a Systems Software Engineer to support a critical Federal Program in Chantilly, VA.  This is a direct-hire role with our client, a highly respected Federal Integrator.  Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship and an active TS/SCI Clearance is required.

Systems Software Engineer

Project Overview

We are developing the next generation of enterprise undersea GEOINT capabilities to improve maritime domain awareness. Central to this effort is the development of a continuously updated enterprise undersea GEOINT model that integrates bathymetry, sidescan sonar imagery, oceanographic data, and related geospatial information into a unified operational capability.
The project focuses on transforming advanced research into operational enterprise capabilities through application development, systems integration, testing, and transition. Contractor personnel will support the design, development, integration, verification, validation, and deployment of the enterprise undersea GEOINT application while enabling interoperability with related maritime GEOINT capabilities. The effort includes development of scalable software services, enterprise data integration, automated testing, user engagement, and transition of capabilities into operational environments.
Working closely with Government engineers, researchers, and mission stakeholders, contractor personnel will support the full engineering lifecycle from requirements analysis and system design through software development, testing, deployment, and operational transition. Particular emphasis will be placed on developing secure, scalable, and maintainable enterprise applications that enable rapid integration of evolving undersea GEOINT capabilities.
Role Overview
The Systems & Software Engineer will design, develop, integrate, test, and deploy the undersea GEOINT enterprise application and supporting software services. Working across both systems engineering and software development disciplines, the engineer will translate system requirements into secure, scalable software solutions while supporting system integration, verification, testing, and enterprise deployment.
The position will develop application services, APIs, data processing workflows, automation, and user-facing capabilities supporting enterprise undersea GEOINT operations. The engineer will collaborate closely with Government engineers and technical teams to ensure the resulting system is maintainable, interoperable, and ready for operational transition.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise software supporting the undersea GEOINT application.
  • Translate system requirements into software architecture, application components, APIs, and data services.
  • Develop software supporting ingestion, processing, fusion, visualization, and dissemination of undersea GEOINT data.
  • Implement scalable application architectures supporting enterprise deployment and future capability expansion.
  • Support software integration across multiple enterprise systems, databases, and geospatial services.
  • Develop automated unit tests, integration tests, regression tests, and software validation procedures.
  • Participate in system integration, troubleshooting, defect resolution, and software verification activities.
  • Support implementation of DevSecOps practices including configuration management, version control, automated builds, and CI/CD integration.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers to maintain requirements traceability and verification throughout development.
  • Develop software documentation, interface specifications, user guides, and technical design documentation.
  • Support deployment, user acceptance testing, operational transition, and sustainment activities.
  • Participate in Agile software development activities including sprint planning, code reviews, demonstrations, and retrospectives.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline and 9 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in a related field and 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience designing and developing enterprise software applications using modern programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, C#, or Go.
  • Experience developing RESTful APIs, backend services, and distributed software architectures.
  • Experience integrating software with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with software verification, validation, testing, and quality assurance methodologies.
  • Experience using Git, GitLab, GitHub, or equivalent source code management systems.
  • Experience supporting Agile software development processes.
  • Experience performing software integration, debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, object-oriented design, and software lifecycle management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supporting NGA or Intelligence Community GEOINT or maritime programs.
  • Experience processing bathymetric, sonar, raster, vector, or oceanographic datasets.
  • Experience with cloud-native application development using AWS, Kubernetes, OpenShift, or Docker.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
  • Experience supporting enterprise deployment and operational transition of software capabilities.
  • Experience supporting software development for research and development or rapid prototyping programs.
  • Security+, Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD), AWS Developer Associate, or comparable software engineering certifications.
