The Reliability & System Safety Engineering team works with our broader Engineering team to ensure our products are safe and meet all mission performance, environmental, and customer requirements. We develop cutting-edge System Safety processes and methods to secure scalable, long-term business success.As a System Safety Engineer at Anduril, you will autonomously drive system-level safety decisions, apply advanced analysis techniques, influence design trades, and lead complex failure investigations. You will partner with Reliability, Systems Engineering, and Hardware & Software teams across the product development lifecycle to deliver safe, mission-ready products.WHAT YOU'LL DOExecute System Safety program plans aligned with MIL-STD-882E and program-specific requirementsConduct safety analyses including FHA, Fault Tree Analysis, SCFTA, FMECA, and System Safety Assessments at the system and sub-system levelDevelop safety requirements and collaborate with design teams to implement safety solutionsIdentify and document hazards and risks, manage hazard tracking, and ensure proper risk mitigation strategies are in placeSupport the Design Requirements Process to ensure teams adhere to safety best practicesSupport Development Milestone Reviews (PDR, CDR, QDR) representing System SafetyLead Safety corrective actions from RCCA investigations and Mishap ReportsVerify and validate risk and hazard reduction measuresLiaise with internal stakeholders and support customer and regulatory engagements as neededDrive continuous improvement in System Safety processes and methodologiesEnsure compliance with relevant military and industry safety standardsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSMinimum of 5 years of industry experience as a System Safety Engineer or equivalent engineering backgroundB.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent technical disciplineExperience with safety-critical hardware and software systems in the defense or aerospace industryFamiliarity with MIL-STD-882E and other relevant safety standardsStrong background in safety analysis techniques including FTA, FHA, SCFTA, and FMECAExperience with requirements decomposition for SafetyFailure investigation/analysis experience with a proven track record of solving problems and preventing reoccurrenceDesign Review experience (PDR, CDR, MRR) and confident presentation skillsStrong analytical/problem-solving skills and excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionallyEligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearancePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSM.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent technical disciplineExperience or familiarity with ARP-4754, ARP-4761, MIL-STD-516C, and JSSSEHExperience with Relyence, Teamcenter, JIRA, JAMA, Cameo, and/or AnsysSoftware safety case development experienceExperience with risk management, change control/change management reviews, and software/firmware HITL/SITLAI/ML software safety experienceUS Salary Range: $126,000–$167,000 USDThe salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations.
