Job Title: Requirements Engineer - Wideband Global Satellite Ground Systems
Job Description
This role focuses on systems and requirements engineering for the Wideband Global Satellite (WGS) Ground Satellite Configuration & Control Element (GSCCE) modernization project, supporting current system upgrades, upcoming satellite launches, and future development efforts. You will participate in the full product development lifecycle, from concept and design through implementation, maintenance, and support, working in a collaborative, modified-agile environment to deliver integrated, life-cycle balanced system solutions that meet complex customer needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead and perform requirements analysis and management for GSCCE modernization efforts.
- Define, trace, and manage interface and dependency requirements across customer-provided infrastructure.
- Manage system requirements decomposition and allocation, translating legacy capabilities into clear, allocated requirements for updated components, operating systems, and redesigned target system architectures.
- Establish and maintain a requirements baseline, including analysis, derivation, allocation, and traceability of requirements and interfaces, including those involving external systems and organizations.
- Perform system design analysis of ground infrastructure hardware baselines to support modernization and performance objectives.
- Lead analysis of performance requirements and allocate performance parameters to segments and subsystems.
- Develop and execute simulation and modeling activities to assess GSCCE system performance attributes and support design decisions.
- Use system mission frameworks and tools to manage requirements and ensure alignment with mission objectives.
- Identify, perform, and review design decisions, trade studies, and architecture improvements to optimize system performance and reliability.
- Decompose complex system requirements into executable, discrete user stories suitable for a modified-agile development environment.
- Establish and support system-level management and interfaces to ensure coherent integration across segments and external organizations.
- Develop and manage a risk and opportunity baseline, tracking and mitigating technical and programmatic risks.
- Coordinate and map system requirements across parallel development efforts with multiple contractor interfaces to maintain consistency and traceability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate, maintain, and evolve complex systems and products.
- Communicate technical findings, design impacts, and requirements changes clearly to stakeholders and team members.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated experience in requirements analysis and management for complex systems.
- Strong background in interface and dependency requirements management, including defining, tracing, and managing requirements across customer-provided infrastructure.
- Experience working on parallel development efforts involving multiple contractor interfaces.
- Proficiency in system requirements decomposition and allocation, including translating legacy capabilities into requirements for updated components, operating systems, and redesigned architectures.
- Hands-on experience establishing and maintaining requirements baselines, including analysis, derivation, allocation, and traceability of requirements and interfaces.
- Experience with systems integration in complex, multi-segment environments.
- Ability to perform system design analysis of ground infrastructure hardware baselines.
- Experience leading analysis of performance requirements and allocating performance metrics to segments and subsystems.
- Ability to develop and perform simulation and modeling to assess system performance attributes.
- Skill in identifying and conducting design decisions, trade studies, and architecture improvements.
- Experience decomposing complex requirements into executable, discrete user stories in an agile or modified-agile environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and propose effective solutions.
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to present technical information clearly and collaborate within cross-functional teams.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance, including meeting all eligibility requirements.
- Eligibility and willingness to hold an interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance post-start.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience supporting satellite ground systems or similar mission-critical command and control environments.
- background in systems engineering as an interdisciplinary engineering management process, balancing life-cycle considerations to satisfy customer needs.
- Familiarity with modified-agile or agile development methodologies and working in fast-paced, success-oriented environments.
- Experience with risk and opportunity management in engineering projects.
- Ability to work collaboratively in mentoring environments, including learning from and leading others.
- Experience mapping systems requirements across complex architectures and external organizations.
- Comfort with managing technical interfaces in multi-contractor, multi-segment programs.
