Overview:

The Quonset Point Work Center Master Planning & Readiness Team is looking for System Engineers to develop spatial layouts for Major Modules and work centers of concurrent VA & CLB Class Submarine construction. Selected candidates will perform analyses to ensure building requirements, space, equipment, floor loading capacities, lifting and handling requirements support operations.  

 

The System Engineer would use computer analytics and technical ship building knowledge to plan workspace for submarine modules.  The candidate would determine the best spatial layout while considering capacity of work centers, supporting equipment, and flow paths, access requirements and construction spans. In this role, candidates must regularly interface with Operations Management, Ship's Management, Program Offices, Facilities Master Planning team, and Strategic Sourcing Team.

 

This is an onsite position located at the North Kingstown, RI location

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage three dimensional optimum space for submarine modules with respect to construction start, span and ship out schedule
  • Develop, execute, maintain, and modify Work Center designs and layouts in accordance with module build sequence
  • Project Management of fixture installations, equipment installations, facility upgrades
  • Thorough knowledge of procedure compliance as it relates to Shipbuilding and safety.
  • Critical asset/equipment/spatial demand and capacity analyses
Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree or higher in Engineering or related degree
  • 5+ years of combined Engineering, construction/manufacturing operations experience, or construction support experience
  • Strong computer skills: Candidates must be proficient in MS Suite, CAD 

Preferred:

  • Experience with submarine construction
  • Familiarity with trade work instructions and/or scheduling systems in a manufacturing facility
  • Proficiency in MS Project, Visio, AutoCAD, Teamcenter/NX, Artemis planning system
  • Experience with risk analysis and/or risk management
  • Past experience with Lean, Kaizen, or Process Improvement
  • Experience with Factory Flow & Work Center design

  • Excellent project management skills with a working knowledge of the principles of analytical problem-solving techniques
  • Candidates must be able to analyze submarine production as a system, identify conflicts, develop plans to resolve issues, and recommend/apply potential improvements
