General Statement of Duties

Forsyth County Management Information Services (MIS) is hiring for Systems Analyst. The Systems Analyst position is appealing to those IT Professionals that enjoy challenge, opportunities for technical enhancement and constructing successful solutions that has a positive impact on the efficiency and delivery of local Government services to Citizens. A dynamic environment where there is a solid mix of individually determined solutions and supporting tasks while also presenting space for engagement in a collaborative team supportive atmosphere that produces positive solutions and outcomes.

The Systems Analyst position performs the following IT functions: Enterprise network infrastructure design, administration, and configuration of switches, firewalls, routers, and wireless access points with solid firewall experience, preferably in Palo Alto. Diagnose and resolve complex issues across LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, DNS, DHCP, and VPNs. In-depth understanding of network and application operation and definition within the OSI model. Knowledge of IP addressing, subnet masking, and routing protocols. Document network configurations, diagrams, and standard operating procedures. Maintain security and privacy of networks and computer systems by implementing best practices and policies (e.g., firewall rules, VLAN segmentation, NAC, etc.). Server, VMware, storage, and data protection design and administration."

Working knowledge to considerable knowledge of computer operation and capabilities and limitations of equipment.

Working knowledge to considerable knowledge of office procedures and of the techniques used in their analysis and adaptation to electronic data processing methods.

Working knowledge to considerable knowledge of system programming languages and software.

Working knowledge to considerable knowledge of data communication protocols.

Working knowledge to considerable knowledge of network hardware and communication protocols.

Ability to analyze and interpret organizational and procedural problems and to design suitable systems and programs.

Ability to prepare detailed and comprehensive reports and to present clear oral and written recommendations.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and agencies.

Minimum Education and Experience

Graduation from a four-year college with a degree in computer science and 4 years of experience in P.C., networking, and large systems, at least two of which must be in software systems analysis on the same or similar equipment.

A four-year degree outside of the relevant academic field plus additional years of relevant experience may also be considered.

A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Valid drivers license required.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the U.S. Department of Justices Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Ensures system availability during periods of scheduled use.

Performs system and/or network management tasks, including maintaining system security and data integrity; monitoring systems for errors and performance problems; monitoring system usage; designing backups for data and software; performing system and application software installation and upgrades; system troubleshooting and backup procedures.

Diagnoses and responds to problems with computer hardware, system software, data communication equipment, and peripherals.

Trains system users; responds to user questions, requests, and complaints; communicates with users to identify problems and suggestions for improvements.

Works on special projects related to the use of information technology.

Provides interdepartmental support to programming and operations staff.

Meets with MIS staff and users to design and plan for future systems, networks, and enhancements to existing systems.

Performs related work as required.
