About this position: System Technologist                     Location – Anchorage, AK

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Under minimum or no supervision, is competent in all phases of System Management Office operations. Job involves a wide variety of duties requiring considerable judgment, ingenuity, resourcefulness, and analytical ability. Frequent attention to detail is required to minimize costly
  • Ensure servers, workstations, peripherals, communication devices, and software associated with functional community internal networks, are online and available to support customers.
  • Maintains configuration management of Alaska Land Mobile Radios (ALMR) within the Motorola Astro25 Trunked Integrated Voice and Data System of Enables, changes, and deletes

security groups, talk groups, and radios. Ensures encryption configurations are established and correctly configured for customer secure communications. Prepares reports using the Motorola PRNM Suite and Genesis GenWatch3 reporting systems.

  • Implements network security by evaluating prevention, deterrent, detection, alert, and profiling; identifying risks, weaknesses, and suspicious activities; developing safeguard policies, procedures,

and controls; preparing incident response and deterrent practices; implementing training and counseling clients; adhering to industry standards.

  • Monitors system security and integrity through log files monitoring.
  • Verifies application results by conducting system audits of technologies implemented and reporting violations. Prepares network security reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and

        trends.

  • Establishes system access by issuing access accounts, coaching clients on password construction and usage.
  • Documents access by logging, sorting, counting, and filing requests, recording terminations and

  • Opens, updates, and close ALMR work orders and Motorola cases in CommShop 360; assists with logging help-desk interactions on cases; research questions using available information resources; redirect problems to appropriate resource; identify and escalate situations requiring urgent attention; prepare activity reports
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
  • Perform duties in other functional areas as part of company cross utilization program other tasks as required.
  • Responsible for providing technical assistance and troubleshooting support to computer systems hardware or Responds to queries, runs diagnostic programs, isolates problems, and determines and implements solutions. Prepares users by designing and conducting training programs, providing references and support.
  • Land Mobile Radio System Technologist assists on an as needed basis to fill in as the Help Desk Technician with fielding phone calls or emails from people with Alaska Land Mobile Radio configuration requirements. They field issues that customers cannot solve by themselves. Help Desk Technicians can perform minor repairs and refer major problems to vendors or technicians. Help Desk Technician additionally might have to work with system engineers, read technical manuals, and perform system diagnostics to help pinpoint software or hardware issues.
