Description

The Software and Cyber team is seeking a Vehicle Systems Integration Lab (VSIL) Lab Technician/Associate Specialist. We are looking for someone who is highly organized and has experience working with cross-functional organizations such as Production, Supply Chain and IPS.
 
The Lab Technician is responsible for the day-to-day operation and coordination of activities in the VSIL for Software, Cyber and SW Test teams with 4 primary areas of responsibility: 
  • Procurement and material management for Engineering development needs in a compliant manner as it pertains to ITAR, CUI and Government Property
  • Providing hands-on and technical support to building SILs and test benches including building prototype test harnesses.
  • Supporting ad hoc or urgent requests such as preparing for VIP events
  • Regular VSIL housekeeping
Key Job Elements:
  • Support the day-to-day activities that occur in the System Integration Lab (SIL).
  • Maintain track of high value assets and their calibration status.
  • Liaise with gauge control to ensure equipment calibration cycles are maintained. 
  • Purchase and maintain stock of relevant consumable materials like connectors, wire, solder, heat shrink and other materials that SIL users need for their work.
  • Support purchase of materials for engineering prototypes and tests.
  • Responsible for the overall cleanliness and housekeeping of shared spaces in the SIL.
  • Build test harnesses and/or test fixtures for the SIL including harnesses, Proto-board, small enclosures, or other hardware.
  • Work with Facilities and other areas of the business to ensure there is adequate storage, electrical, IT utilities/services, and furniture for the SIL.
  • Work with IT and Security to maintain security updates and status of SIL PC hardware.
  • Coordinate with PMC department for shipping and receiving to the SIL.
  • Support Capital and consumables funding planning or other budget to get the appropriate tools and test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, multi meters, etc.) for the SIL.
  • Manage annual SIL operating budget.

Required Qualifications:

  • College Diploma or University Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field 
  • Minimum 1-3 years relevant experience.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematics to build assemblies.
  • Ability to use common hand tools for crimping contacts and construction of assemblies.
  • Familiarity with Lab based instrumentation tools such as oscilloscopes, function generators, etc.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to meet Anthropometrical Size Requirements for confined space.
  • Must be able to work in Canada and to obtain CGP (Controlled Goods Program) clearance and be eligible for access to ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) controlled data/hardware.
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel (5% Cdn) and (5% US & International) and possess/be able to acquire and maintain a valid passport.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified to IPC J-STD-001 standard for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies
  • Familiar with IPC/WHMA-A-620 and GDLS wire harness manufacturing standards
  • Experience with industry and military standards relevant to military vehicle design
  • Experience building assemblies with automotive and military connectors
  • Experience diagnosing CAN and serial bus (RS232/422/485) connections
  • Have or be able to obtain and maintain Secret Level clearance
