Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative is seeking an experienced and motivatedSYSTEM ARBORIST AND MANAGER OF VEGETATION SERVICES to lead and oversee our right-of-way vegetation management, pole inspection, and herbicide programs. This position plays a critical role in maintaining electric system reliability, public safety, and regulatory compliance across our service territory.

What You’ll Do
As Vegetation Services Manager, you will:
- Lead all right-of-way vegetation management and pole inspection/treatment activities
- Manage contractor operations, audits, bidding processes, and vendor relationships
- Develop and oversee operational budgets and project schedules
- Ensure compliance with Cooperative, OSHA, federal, state, and local safety regulations
- Coordinate vegetation management activities to support electric system reliability
- Oversee herbicide application programs and substation vegetation maintenance
- Support utility drone inspection planning and vegetation assessments
- Supervise employees and contractors while promoting a strong safety culture
- Build positive relationships with members, contractors, and community stakeholders
- Assist during storm restoration and emergency response efforts
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 5 years of utility vegetation management experience on electric distribution and/or transmission systems
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience
- Valid Virginia driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to obtain required certifications within six months:
- Arborist Certification
- Herbicide/Pesticide Applicator Certification
- First Aid & CPR
- Forklift and Flagman Certifications
Preferred:
- Degree in Forestry, Arboriculture, or related field
- Knowledge of integrated vegetation management practices
- Experience with utility pole inspection and treatment programs
- Familiarity with contractor oversight, budgeting, and utility operations
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills

Work Environment
This role involves both office and field work in varying weather conditions and requires regular travel throughout the Cooperative service territory. Candidates must be available for emergency restoration efforts and occasional overnight travel.
