Position Description:
The Syndications Business Development Officer (BDO) is responsible for developing and expanding senior secured lending opportunities by building strong relationships with originating lenders and strategic partners. This role serves as a trusted advisor to lending institutions, helping identify financing opportunities, structure complex credit solutions, and support successful multi-lender transactions.
Working as part of the Syndications & Trading team, the BDO partners closely with originating lenders to qualify opportunities, evaluate transaction structures, provide pricing guidance, and advance lending opportunities from initial prospect through closing. Success in this role is driven by relationship development, influence, and collaboration rather than direct portfolio management.
The position focuses on growing Farm Credit Bank of Texas' syndicated lending business by leveraging industry expertise, market knowledge, and strong business relationships. The BDO works across internal teams, including Credit, Capital Markets, Risk Management, Legal, and Credit Administration, to deliver creative financing solutions that meet borrower needs while supporting the Bank's strategic objectives.
Operating with a high degree of independence, the Syndications Business Development Officer represents the Bank throughout the marketplace, identifies new business opportunities, influences lending outcomes through trusted partnerships, and promotes the Bank's reputation as a leading provider of senior secured lending and syndication solutions.
Day-to-Day Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and strengthen relationships with originating lenders and strategic partners to generate a consistent pipeline of senior secured lending opportunities.
- Partner with lenders to identify borrower financing needs, develop lending strategies, and structure complex credit solutions that align with borrower objectives and the Bank's lending appetite.
- Conduct joint borrower meetings and presentations, serving as an advocate for the Bank's syndication capabilities and influencing successful financing outcomes.
- Review lending opportunities and provide guidance on transaction structure, pricing, covenants, collateral, tenor, and overall market competitiveness.
- Collaborate with Syndications & Trading, Credit, Capital Markets, Risk Management, Legal, Credit Administration, and other internal stakeholders to advance opportunities through the approval and closing process.
- Support the development and execution of loan syndications while identifying opportunities for the Bank to hold overline positions and generate fee income.
- Maintain an active pipeline of prospective transactions through effective relationship management, CRM documentation, and ongoing communication with lending partners.
- Monitor industry trends, market conditions, competitive activity, and regulatory developments impacting commercial and agricultural lending.
- Represent Farm Credit Bank of Texas at industry conferences, customer meetings, and networking events to expand relationships and source new business opportunities.
- Prepare and deliver presentations, transaction updates, pipeline reports, and business development insights to leadership and internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate across business units to continuously improve syndication processes, relationship management practices, and business development efforts.
- Promote the Bank's mission, values, and reputation through exceptional professionalism, sound judgment, and ethical business practices.
