About the Role

Brooklyn Ascend High School seeks an exceptional High School Teacher - Geometry to deliver rigorous, inquiry-driven mathematics instruction that develops scholars logical reasoning, mathematical precision, and problem-solving capabilities while preparing them for success on the New York State Geometry Regents Examination and advanced STEM coursework.

Geometry serves as a cornerstone of Ascends vertically aligned mathematics pathway. Scholars move beyond procedural mathematics to develop formal mathematical proof, spatial reasoning, deductive thinking, and the ability to construct evidence-based arguments. Through authentic application and design-based challenges, students learn to use mathematics as a tool for analyzing, modeling, and solving complex problems.

The successful candidate believes every scholar can achieve at high levels, creates intellectually demanding classrooms where productive struggle is expected, and prepares students to confidently demonstrate mathematical understanding through both Regents performance and public exhibition of learning.

Core Responsibilities

Instructional Excellence

  • Teach Geometry (Grade 10) aligned to New York State Learning Standards and Regents expectations.
  • Design and deliver engaging lessons that cultivate conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and mathematical reasoning.
  • Develop scholars ability to construct formal proofs, justify mathematical thinking with evidence, and communicate complex ideas using precise mathematical language.
  • Facilitate inquiry-based learning experiences that encourage exploration, discourse, and multiple solution pathways.
  • Differentiate instruction to ensure all scholars access rigorous grade-level content while accelerating growth.
  • Build strong connections between geometry, algebra, trigonometry, engineering, architecture, and other STEM disciplines.

Culminating Experience & Public Demonstration

  • Prepare scholars for successful completion of the New York State Geometry Regents Examination.
  • Lead students through the Architecture & Design Exhibition, where scholars apply geometric principles to design and model authentic spaces or structures.
  • Support students in producing technical drawings, mathematical models, and evidence-based design rationales that demonstrate mastery of geometric concepts.
  • Ensure culminating projects reflect both mathematical rigor and real-world application.

Data-Driven Instruction & Professional Practice

  • Participate in weekly STEM data meetings to analyze scholar work, assessment results, and instructional effectiveness.
  • Use formative, interim, and Regents-aligned assessment data to adjust instruction and accelerate scholar achievement.
  • Engage fully in instructional coaching, observation cycles, and professional learning.
  • Implement feedback with urgency and continuously refine instructional practice.
  • Collaborate with STEM colleagues to ensure vertical alignment and coherence across the mathematics sequence.

Culture & Scholar Development

  • Establish a classroom culture grounded in intellectual curiosity, perseverance, collaboration, and academic excellence.
  • Maintain consistent, structured classroom routines aligned to school-wide expectations.
  • Partner with the Dean of Culture & Community and student support teams to promote scholar success.
  • Serve as an advisor, fostering strong relationships that support students academic, personal, and post-secondary development.
  • Inspire scholars to view mathematics as a powerful tool for understanding and shaping the world.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelors degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field.
  • Valid New York State certification in Mathematics (Grades 7-12) or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Demonstrated content expertise in geometry, mathematical reasoning, and proof.
  • Commitment to high academic expectations and equitable outcomes for all scholars.

Preferred

  • Two or more years of secondary mathematics teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated success preparing students for the New York State Geometry Regents Examination.
  • Experience teaching within a college-preparatory, charter, or high-performing school environment.
  • Experience implementing inquiry-based mathematics instruction and facilitating mathematical discourse.

Leadership Profile

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Deep content expertise in secondary mathematics and geometric reasoning.
  • A belief that all scholars can achieve at high levels through rigorous instruction and meaningful support.
  • Exceptional instructional planning and classroom facilitation skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and data-driven decision-making.
  • Comfort fostering productive struggle, mathematical discourse, and evidence-based reasoning.
  • Receptiveness to coaching, feedback, and continuous professional growth.
  • Alignment to Ascends belief that rigor, belonging, and intellectual curiosity are inseparable.

Compensation

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. Typical salary range for experienced high school teachers in NYC charter schools is $80,000-$125,000, depending on certification, experience, and demonstrated instructional outcomes.

Ascend offers a comprehensive benefits package, ongoing professional development, and opportunities for leadership growth.
