Shape flight, heal patients, explore space — with Swiss precision
For more than 70 years, Filger Manufacturing has built mission‑critical components for Aerospace, Medical, and Space programs. We’re hiring a hands‑on Swiss‑Type CNC expert to own set‑ups and production on our STAR screw machines, while programming a small set of new parts each year.
A day in this role
You’ll arrive at 6:00am, review the job queue, and prepare tools and materials. You’ll set up and dial in STAR Swiss machines using Fanuc controls, run a first article, verify it with the Foreman, and then carry the job from first piece through the end of the production run. You’ll monitor quality to ±0.0002, make on‑the‑fly offsets or program edits, and keep multiple machines moving. Overtime is available as backlog remains strong, and proper meal and rest periods are built into the 8+ hour day.
What you’ll do
- Set up and run production on STAR Swiss screw machines (up to 5 machines)
- Select tools, materials, and workholding to meet job requirements
- Program a limited number of new parts annually (about 5–10) — Mastercam preferred, other CAM formats welcome
- Verify first articles with the Foreman; carry jobs to completion
- Interpret blueprints and specifications; execute precise offsets
- Measure with micrometers, calipers, CMM, and an eye loupe; inspect for accuracy
- Troubleshoot equipment and processes; perform minor program changes
- Assist in training and overseeing STAR operators
- Meet daily production targets and sustain shop cleanliness and machine care
- Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by Management
What you bring
- 5+ years of CNC set‑up and running experience, preferably on Swiss/STAR or similar
- Proven autonomy setting up and operating to ±0.0002 tolerances for aerospace work
- Ability to set up quickly and accurately; recognize and implement needed changes
- Proficiency reading blueprints and using micrometers, calipers, CMM, and an eye loupe
- Focus and consistency to produce demanding, high‑tolerance components with minimal errors
- Comfort following work instructions and asking clarifying questions
- Team‑oriented mindset with the ability to work independently
- Capable of lifting 50+ lbs, standing at a machine for 10+ hours, and working in a noisy environment
Skills and tech you’ll use
- Equipment Troubleshooting and general Troubleshooting Skills
- CNC Programming; CNC Machine Setup & Changeover
- Aerospace Manufacturing practices and documentation
- Fanuc controls; Mastercam (other CAM accepted)
- Machines and technologies: Screw Machine (STAR Swiss)
Schedule, pay, and benefits
- Start time: 6:00am; 8+ hour workday with proper meal/rest periods
- 40+ hours per week; overtime available depending on workload
- Hourly compensation based on experience
