Description of Work The U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) is a 34,000-acre facility located near Clay Center, NE. The work performed at USMARC supports research that is focused on solving high priority problems for the U.S. beef cattle, sheep, and swine industries.

As a Swine Unit Hand, you will:

  • Provide care for livestock to include feeding, artificial insemination, heat checking, observation and treatment of swine population.
  • Be responsible for sanitation and basic equipment operation and routine maintenance in the swine facilities.
  • Calibrate feeders in swine areas and collect research data.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position requires irregular hours and work in adverse weather conditions. Within the UNL system, this position is categorized as an Ag Research Tech I. Within the industry, this position may be referred to as a pig production technician or swine herdsman.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency plus one year swine production or livestock experience required; additional completed relevant education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Precision, accuracy and attention to detail necessary.
