Job Purpose & Scope:

The Portfolio Management Officer serves as the primary post-closing owner of commercial credit relationships with large, highly complex portfolios and is the primary owner of ongoing development opportunities, communication, and coordination with clients, support teams, Credit Underwriting, and Loan Monitoring or Construction Loan Monitoring teams. Ensuring credits perform as underwritten, risks are proactively identified and mitigated, and clients receive a high-touch, disciplined, and responsive experience. Acts as an escalation point and subject matter expert for credit risk, loan monitoring, and regulatory matters. Influences portfolio management standards and monitoring practices across the Commercial Bank through expertise, coaching, and governance leadership.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Manages ongoing performance, risk profile, policy compliance, and relationship stewardship of an assigned commercial loan portfolio after credits have been identified, approved, closed, and booked on the Bank’s systems.
  2. Partners closely with Commercial Bankers, Credit Underwriting, Credit Risk Review, Loan Monitoring / Construction Loan Monitoring, and Better Together partners to protect asset quality, ensure regulatory readiness, and responsibly expand existing relationships.
  3. Serves as the primary owner of the ongoing performance and risk management of assigned commercial loan portfolios post-booking.
  4. Maintains deep knowledge of each borrower’s business model, industry, ownership structure, cash flow drivers, and risk profile.
  5. Owns and coordinates all post-closing communication with Credit Underwriting and Loan Monitoring / Construction Loan Monitoring teams.
  6. Monitors covenant compliance, financial reporting, collateral performance, borrowing base compliance, escrow reports, and risk ratings.
  7. Proactively identifies emerging risks and implement corrective actions in partnership with Commercial Bankers and Credit.
  8. Ensures credits remain in compliance with Bank credit policy, approval terms, and regulatory expectations.
  9. Identifies credits requiring enhanced monitoring, risk rating changes, or presentation to Credit Risk Review, Loan Committee, executive management, or regulators.
  10. Partners with Credit Risk Review and Loan Monitoring teams to assess unmitigated risks and document action plans.
  11. Acts as a direct point of contact for clients on portfolio, credit, and servicing matters.
  12. Establishes portfolio management and monitoring best practices and mentors others.
  13. Conducts independent client calls and site visits, or joint calls with Commercial Bankers and Better Together partners.
  14. Supports Commercial Bankers with renewals, modifications, amendments, waivers, and restructures.
  15. Identifies opportunities to responsibly expand existing client relationships while maintaining disciplined credit standards.
  16. Serves as a central coordinator between Commercial Bankers, Credit Underwriting, Loan Monitoring / Construction Loan Monitoring, CBAs, Loan Operations, Legal, and Risk.
  17. Ensures credit conditions, post-closing deliverables, monitoring requirements, and exceptions are satisfied accurately and timely.
  18. Drives accountability across internal teams to resolve issues efficiently and protect the client experience.
  19. Maintains loan files that are complete, accurate, audit-ready, and regulator-defensible.
  20. Prepares credit narratives and materials for Credit Risk Review, Internal Audit, regulators, Loan Committee, and executive management.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  1. Demonstrated knowledge of credit policies, procedures, monitoring requirements, and internal controls.
  2. Advanced knowledge of loan underwriting and credit evaluation.
  3. Ability to interface directly with executive management, Loan Committee, regulators, and senior Credit leadership.
  4. Ability to lead complex renewals, modifications, monitoring discussions, and risk mitigation strategies.
  5. Ability to manage large, complex, and high risk commercial credit relationships.
  6. Ability to  mentor others.
  7. Ability to demonstrate strong execution, organization, and follow-up skills.
  8. Ability to identify emerging risk signals and escalates appropriately.
  9. Ability to identify challenges, navigate obstacles, and effectively drive the loan closing process.
  10. Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial reports and/or legal documents.
  11. Ability to effectively write documents, presentations, and analysis.
  12. Ability to demonstrate effective organization, critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  13. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  14. Ability to work effectively and demonstrate flexibility in a continually changing environment.
  15. Ability to manage multiple tasks with exacting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  16. Ability to work under general supervision.
  17. Skill in using computer and Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Basic Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Real Estate or other job-related field, or commensurate work experience required.
  2. Master of Business Administration or Real Estate, preferred.
  3. 6+ years experience in commercial banking, credit underwriting, portfolio management, loan monitoring, or credit risk, required.
  4. NMLS, or successful completion of NMLS process within 30 days of hire, required.
