Sustainment Systems Engineer

Hybrid - Bridgeton, MO | Full-Time / Contract-to-Hire

Support Mission-Critical Air Force Systems

Join a team sustaining advanced cargo handling systems used by the U.S. Air Force, ensuring operational reliability, safety, and mission readiness. This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll drive real-world impact, working across engineering, depot operations, and program leadership to keep critical systems performing at their best.

If you enjoy problem-solving, improving existing systems, and owning technical sustainment efforts, this role offers both stability and technical depth.

What You'll Do

  • Execute systems engineering to maintain Operational Safety, Suitability & Effectiveness (OSS&E)

  • Support field and depot sustainment activities for cargo loader systems

  • Investigate and resolve system failures, performance issues, and reliability concerns

  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions

  • Maintain and improve key engineering artifacts, including:

  • Systems Engineering Plan (SEP)

  • Configuration Management Plan (CMP)

  • Develop and manage Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and Contract Change Proposals (CCPs)

  • Support and coordinate Configuration Control Boards (CCBs)

  • Maintain system technical baselines, requirements, and specifications

  • Update and manage system safety plans and risk assessments

  • Collaborate with depot teams on continuous improvement initiatives

  • Participate in technical reviews, program reviews, and customer meetings

  • Support Earned Value Management (EVM) activities and program performance tracking

  • Develop and utilize data analysis tools for performance monitoring

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in systems engineering, sustainment engineering, or reliability engineering

  • Strong experience in:

  • Failure analysis & root cause investigation

  • Requirements analysis and traceability

  • Reliability and maintainability engineering

  • Experience troubleshooting electronic systems and/or mechanical equipment

  • Familiarity with configuration management processes

  • Experience with DOORS or similar requirements tools

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Preferred (Nice-to-Have)

  • Experience developing ECPs and CCPs
  • Exposure to configuration control boards (CCB) and change approval workflows
  • Knowledge of system safety program plans and hazard analysis
  • Experience in defense, aerospace, or aviation sustainment programs
  • Experience working with EVM or program performance metrics

Basic Requirements

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bridgeton, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $68.00/hr.
