Position Overview

We have a large backlog of work and are seeking skilled Surveyors and Crew Chiefs to support heavy civil infrastructure (highway/bridge), and power/Water/Wastewater projects around the US. You will play an integral role in leading survey teams on projects that range from $50M to $1Billion, working within tight tolerances and ensuring accuracy in the field. Our Survey leaders are highly valued, and essential to our self-perform construction and play an integral role in establishing and maintaining methods for a safe, accurate and efficient survey and control on our projects. These roles requires strong technical expertise in surveying for construction, attending to tollerances and quality, team leadership, and excellent communication skills to collaborate wih engineering and construction teams to ensure precision and efficiency in all surveying activities.

District Overview
Kiewit's Central District operates in the central and south-central regions of the United States. We build heavy civil and transportation projects, including highways, bridges airports, mass transit systems, canals, dams and tunnels. With one of the largest equipment fleets in the region, we can mobilize to any location as a full-service construction team capable of self-performing site clearance, earthwork, mass grading, drainage, utitilies, excavation, bridge construction, asphalt paving, and concrete anchor bolts down/civil scopes for Power, Water and Wastewater facilities.
Location
Our Survey Teams go where the work is! We are currently hiring for a large, multi-year project in San Ygnacio Texas. Future projects could be in any of the following states: CO, MN, NM, ND, SD, NE, KS, MO, IA WY, MT, TN or KY.
As a Surveyor or Crew Chief, you must be willing to travel to project sites as needed, for the duration of those projects, with paid trips home and visit our district office in Lone Tree Colorado occasionally for training and meetings. When assigned to a project site, we provide per diem and pay for trips home.
Responsibilities
As a Surveyor:
Execute construction surveys: conduct field surveys, including boundary, topographic, control, construction staking. Operate equipment and tools such as GPS, drones, robotic total stations, Trimble Business Center and 3D Scanners.
Interpret plans and legal documents, like deeds, construction plans, survey scopes, specifications to guide your field work.
Store and manage data in GIS systems, for mapping and analysis.
Assist with AutoCAD and Civil 3D for Survey deliverables with our CAD Engineers
Troubleshoot and resolve survey-related challenges on-site, adapting to changing project conditions.
Communicate effectively with superintendents, field crews, engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and deliverables
Follow safety and quality practices
As a Crew Chief:
Lead surveying operations for the construction of assigned projects, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to project specifications.
Develop and implement surveying plans, methodologies, and best practices to optimize field data collection and layout. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop survey plans and schedules.
Lead a team of surveyors and field personnel, providing training, mentorship, and technical guidance.
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to ensure alignment between design intent and field execution.
Skilled in the utilization of advanced surveying technology, including GPS, total stations, LiDAR, and drones (preferred), to capture and analyze data.
Conduct quality control checks to verify survey accuracy and compliance with contractual requirements.
Manage survey data processing, ensuring integration with project management and BIM software.
Prepare and maintain detailed survey reports, logs, and documentation for project records.
Ensure all survey activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and standards.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements in all surveying activities.
Troubleshoot and resolve survey-related challenges on-site, adapting to changing project conditions.
Skilled with Trimble Business Center and with CAD (AutoCAD, Civil 3D and/or Microstation) with the ability to use CAD to do calculations, key in elevations from a plan and drawings.
Communicate effectively with superintendents, field crews, engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and deliverables.
