Job Description
This position assists with technical surveying duties in support of department operations.
Examples of Duties
- Assists with land surveying services for construction, as built, topographic, right-of-way, easements, subdivision plats, and horizontal and vertical control survey projects; learns and follows surveying methods and standards as required by state and public agencies; utilizes hand and/or power tools in the execution of these duties.
- Assists in gathering field survey data with the use of conventional surveying, GPS, and drone methods; completes post survey processing of surveying or drone data collection.
- Creates alignments, profiles, surfaces, and any other data needed for construction staking operations utilizing CADD or survey software.
- Researches existing record information, including record maps, original survey notes, plans, deeds, easements, and right-of-way documents.
- Communicates in person or through email with internal staff, other departments staff, vendors, contractors, consultants, and the public to clarify or resolve issues pertaining to plats, surveys, construction staking, as built, or topographic surveys.
- Reviews legal descriptions in support of the Survey division associated with right-of-way documents, subdivision plats, irregular plats, survey certificates, and record of surveys.
- Prepares legal and boundary descriptions and easements for municipal projects; prepares property descriptions, reports, and land use documents in support of the Survey division.
- Utilizes computer and software to create comprehensive documents; creates and inputs spreadsheets and data bases; files electronic documents.
- Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with an associate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work, usually associated with two years of experience or service.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
