The Engineering Technician III performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions. This technician performs at this level one or a combination of such typical duties as: a. Constructing components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions; b. Following specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment; c. Conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data; d. Extracting and compiling a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation; e. Assisting in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; developing information concerning previous operational failures and modifications, and using judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information. Set up robotic total station, accurately gather survey data.
Perform a closed loop traverse and reduce the data and run a trig level.
Must be able to perform COGO functions such as inverse, resection, stake a line, translate and rotate coordinates in the field.
Must be able to thoroughly research subject property. Must be able to pull the vesting deed(s) and run grantee/grantor property search at the courthouse. Must be familiar with the plat index and be able to conduct research at the courthouse using the plat index.
Must be able to read and calculate (perform map check, translate and rotate reference coordinates onto measured field coordinates) a recorded subdivision plat or a metes and bounds legal description.
Be able to run a map check and list the map Error of closure using Carlson SurvCe.
Must be able to locate property corners using a pin finder, recorded deed or subdivision plat
Must be able to run line work.
Must learn field codes specific to Georgia Land Surveying Co.
Responsible for cutting line
Must be able to calibrate a prism rod
Must make sure truck is fully equipped everyday

The Survey Party Chief - Engineering shall have consecutive employment in a position with comparable responsibilities within the past five (5) years, Must be able to use a computer to communicate via email; and proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and related tools and technology required for the position. Work products shall be thorough, accurate, appropriately documented, and comply with established criteria.
