Job Description

Dewberry is currently looking for seeking an experienced Survey Instrument Operator to perform a variety of tasks associated with land surveying and civil engineering out of our Frederick, Maryland office location. Applicant must be able to work in a team environment as a key member of a survey crew assisting in the performance of boundary, ALTA, topographic, right-of way acquisition, transmission line, transportation, and construction surveys utilizing the latest equipment and surveying technology. Applicant must be willing to work 60 hours per week on out of town assignments (per diem available for extended assignments).

Responsibilities

  • Assist the field supervisor with all aspects of the daily crew workload.
  • Work in a safe manner and obey all safety regulations.
  • Supervise the survey crew in the absence of the crew chief.
  • Work independently as a one person crew as required.
  • Daily uploading and downloading of data collectors.
  • Daily care and charging of instrumentation.
  • Continually advance knowledge with upgrades in technology

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of survey instrument operation experience required.
  • High School Diploma (Minimum).
  • Good mathematical and computer skills.
  • Proficient with the use of Topcon and Trimble survey equipment. (GPS, Robotics, Total Stations, Levels, and Data Collectors).
  • Proficient with Carlson SurvCE, and Trimble Survey Controller and/or Trimble Access data collection software.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Hold a valid driver's license and have the ability to pass a driving record check.
  • Must pass a DOT drug/alcohol test.
  • Must be dependable.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance is a plus.
  • Physically able to work outdoors and on construction sites under all weather conditions.
  • Ability to repetitively stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 50 lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes, in addition to ability to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for extended periods for out of town work.
