Shift: Days | 8-Hour Shifts | 40 Hours/Week
Pay Local: $55 - $65/hr
Pay Travel: $2100 - $2600 Gross weekly

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist I to join a fast-paced surgical team in Bakersfield, CA. The Surgical Technologist will assist surgeons, registered nurses, and anesthesia providers before, during, and after surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile environment, preparing instruments and supplies, and ensuring patient safety throughout the operative process.

This is an excellent opportunity for a certified Surgical Technologist with strong knowledge of sterile technique and experience supporting a variety of surgical specialties, including robotic and vascular procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating room by gathering, checking, and opening sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment required for surgical procedures.
  • Verify patient identity and surgical procedure, assist with patient transport, positioning, draping, and establish a sterile field while participating in the Time-Out/Universal Protocol.
  • Maintain strict aseptic and sterile techniques throughout the procedure to ensure patient safety and prevent infection.
  • Anticipate the surgeon's needs by passing instruments, medications, irrigation solutions, sutures, and other surgical supplies during procedures.
  • Assist with surgical exposure by holding retractors, suctioning, sponging the operative site, cutting sutures, and supporting robotic or endoscopic procedures as directed.
  • Perform and document instrument, sponge, and sharps counts with the circulating RN before, during, and after procedures according to hospital policy.
  • Prepare, label, and handle surgical specimens appropriately while ensuring all surgical instruments are cleaned, accounted for, and sent for sterilization after each procedure.
  • Apply sterile dressings, assist with incision closure, support patient transfer to the PACU, and help with operating room turnover to prepare for subsequent cases.
  • Maintain accurate procedural documentation, comply with all federal, state, and facility safety standards, and participate in quality improvement initiatives to deliver safe, high-quality patient care.
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers, and the interdisciplinary team while providing compassionate care to patients across all age groups.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology Program.
  • Current Surgical Technologist Certification.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Certification
