General Statement of Duties:
The Surgical Technologistis responsible forassistingwith the delivery of qualitysurgicalcare throughplanning andanticipatingthe surgeon/procedure needs and coordinatingwith the circulating perioperative nurse during surgical procedures. Demonstratescompetency in surgical technologyto include allmajor surgical specialty areas;includesgathering and preparingsterile supplies, equipment, preparing/maintainingthe sterile field andassistingthe surgeon by supplyingsterile instruments/supplies tothe sterile field in a safe and efficient manner. Performsroutine scrubroleaswellspecifically delegated department duties. Consistentlyfollowscurrent AORNand regulatorystandards and established policies and procedures of the System.

Essential Job Functions:
Plansfor and obtainsthe equipment and suppliesneededfor assigned procedures according to physicians' preference and specific patient needs.
Additional Job Functions:
Maintains anefficientcontrolled O.R. environment by processing and re-stocking supplies and equipment.
Ensures the integrity and safety of the specimen prior topathologyprocedures.Collects and labels specimens for diagnostic lab per hospital policy and procedure.
Supports the mission and vision of the Methodist Healthcare System. Understands and is committed to helping the Methodist Healthcare System and its associated facilities achieve its goals.
Must learn and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must befamiliar with all safety features of equipment, tools and materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any function.
