Job Summary and Qualifications
What you will do in this role:
• Demonstrates knowledge of applying surgical gloves using aseptic technique and maintaining a sterile field. • Demonstrates knowledge of preparing for surgery by pulling the appropriate supplies and instruments for the procedure. • Understands and recognizes the different surgical instruments and their applications. • Displays appropriate knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology to prepare and assist in surgical procedures. • Maintains a safe, sterile field by: • Positioning sharps correctly • Labeling all medications on the sterile field • Understanding of electrocautery and other devices that generate heat to prevent possible fires in the O.R. • Participating in a timeout with the rest of the surgical team to maintain patient safety. • Demonstrates ability to appropriately set up for a surgical procedure and follow protocol in the counting of supplies and instruments to ensure no foreign object is left inside of the patient. • Understands the principles of and can competently assist a surgeon during a procedure and possesses adequate knowledge of the procedure itself. • Displays the ability to differentiate sutures and their applications. • Demonstrates the ability to close a surgical site under physician supervision with appropriate suture. • Demonstrates a teamwork approach in the care of a patient during the perioperative phase.
What qualifications you will need:
• Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training in the Surgical Technologist role is required. • Certification in Surgical Technology or verifiable Surgical Tech experience prior to 9/12/2009 is required. • Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association is required. • 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred. • High School Graduate or GED
