Chesapeake Specialty Care is looking for an experienced Surgical Scheduling Coordinator to join our team in Owings Mills. Please note: This is a fully on-site position and requires at least one (1) year of hands-on surgical scheduling experience. Candidates without direct experience will not be considered.
About the Role
In this position, you'll act as the main point of coordination for surgical cases—working closely with patients, providers, anesthesia teams, and surgical facilities. From scheduling to financial clearance, you'll help ensure everything is in place for a successful procedure.
Key Responsibilities
Surgical Scheduling & Coordination

Schedule procedures accurately and keep cases organized from start to finish

Coordinate with patients, providers, anesthesia teams, and facilities

Ensure all required documentation (consents, H&Ps, pre-op testing, orders) is complete and on time

Clearly explain pre-operative instructions and next steps to patients

Manage cancellations and help keep operating room time fully utilized

Track special patient or procedural needs (equipment, medical conditions, etc.)

Address scheduling conflicts promptly and effectively
Insurance & Financial Responsibilities

Verify insurance coverage and obtain prior authorizations

Confirm procedures are financially cleared prior to scheduling

Prepare and review patient cost estimates in a clear, professional manner

Collect applicable patient balances before surgery

Answer patient questions related to insurance and financial responsibility

Work with billing teams to help reduce denials and delays
What We're Looking For (Required)

Minimum of 1 year of direct surgical scheduling experience

Ability to work on-site in Owings Mills, MD (no remote/hybrid option)

High School Diploma or GED

Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
Preferred Experience

Insurance verification and prior authorizations

Patient financial counseling and collections

EMR systems (eClinicalWorks experience is a plus)

Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
