Join STERIS as a Surgical Reprocessing Systems Field Service Engineer

STERIS helps healthcare and life science Customers build a healthier, safer world. As a remote, customer-facing professional primarily based in hospitals, you will keep critical surgical workflows running by installing, troubleshooting, and repairing the equipment that underpins sterile processing and operating rooms.

A day in the life

You start your morning reviewing your autonomous schedule: a preventive maintenance in one hospital’s decontam area, a warranty call across town, and an afternoon installation assist. You arrive on site, greet the SPD lead, and bring a washer-disinfector back to peak performance. Later, you calibrate a steam generator, document your work on mobile tools to meet regulatory requirements, and collaborate with Tech Support and Engineering when a complex issue needs a deeper dive. Along the way, you brief the Customer on repair options and coordinate with Sales to ensure they have what they need.

You’ll become an expert on our flagship OEM lineup—Washers, Sterilizers, Ultrasonics, Steam Generators, and Cart Washers—our largest portfolio of approximately 160 models and the equipment STERIS was founded on. It’s a hands-on role with meaningful impact, backed by a team that supports your growth.

What you will do

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain STERIS and competitor systems and components used in surgical and sterile processing environments.
  • Plan your route and prioritize Customer commitments to complete PMs, service and warranty calls, installations, and field upgrades on time.
  • Use advanced mobile platforms to document work, meet compliance requirements, and resolve issues efficiently; escalate with Tech Support, Engineering, and Service Contract Management when needed.
  • Explain findings, pricing, and repair options to Customers; partner with Sales to enhance Customer experience and identify revenue opportunities.
  • Support multiple facilities across your territory based on service agreements and needs.

Backgrounds that thrive here

Many successful team members bring experience from HVAC, general mechanics, facilities maintenance, refrigeration, boilers/chillers, equipment repair, diesel/automotive, aviation, plumbing, and electrical trades.

What you bring

  • High School Diploma or GED and 4+ years of work experience, including 2+ years in a mechanical/technical role. An associate degree, relevant certifications, competitive equipment training, or related military experience may count toward this requirement.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet all background and physical assessment elements required to obtain and maintain vendor credentialing; compliance with hospital/Customer credentialing.
  • Experience engaging with Customers and teams; strong written and verbal communication.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Windows, email, navigation, mobile apps) with the ability to enter data across multiple systems.
  • Schedule flexibility, including possible overnights and early/late hours as Customer needs dictate.

Compensation and benefits

Base pay range: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00. This position is eligible for bonus. Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on factors such as local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, certifications, and language skills.

  • Hands-on training program
  • Paid Time Off plus 9 corporate holidays
  • Excellent medical, dental, and vision coverage
