We're hiring a SurgicalMedical Assistant to join our outpatient dermatology clinic in Norfolk, VA. The Medical Assistant will assistPhysicians and other Providersby preparing procedure trays, ensuring adequate supplies for the department and assisting with patient care.

Responsibilities:
This position will work with one of our Mohs Surgeons, assisting during surgery as well as in the clinic for post-surgical follow up appointments.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Guide patients to exam/procedure room. Assist patients as needed with walking, preparing for exam, etc.
Collect patient information/history; taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines.
Prepare procedure rooms and surgical trays with all supplies needed for procedures.
Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Comply with all company policies and procedures
Complete pre-operative intake via one-on-one interview, explain surgical procedures, and answer any questions within your scope.
Prepare paperwork for patient’s current visit and ensure complete and accurate documentation within the patient’s electronic medical record
Drape and disinfect surgical site, administer local anesthesia, and use a handheld cautery device to achieve hemostasis
Assist physician during all procedures (passing instruments, blotting, cutting sutures, etc)
Bandage surgical sites, prepare proper discharge paperwork, review wound care instructions with patient, and answer any questions or concerns they may have
Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization in an autoclave
Collect and accurately process specimens
Other duties assigned as deemed necessary by management.
Qualifications:
Able to triage patient concerns.
Be familiar with and compliant OSHA/HIPAA, infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.
Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
Experience administering injections.
Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes.
Knowledge of office financial policies.
Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization.
Able to operate standard office equipment (i.e. computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work in an effective, cooperative, and courteous manner with staff, patients, and visitors.
Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed
Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team
Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction.
Ability to spell,sort and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.
Licensure/Certifications/Education:
Education and Experience:
High School Graduate or GED required.
Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program or completion of a bachelor’s degree program in the pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred.
CPR certified preferred.
1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or other clinical patient care experience preferred.
Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Standing and walking for extended periods of time
Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing.
Use of hands and fingers.
Talking and listening in person and on the telephone.
Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc.
Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
