JOB TITLE: ASC Medical Assistant II
SUPERVISOR: Director of Surgery
HOURS PER WEEK: 40/Non-Exempt (Monday - Friday 4 x 10 hours shifts with variable day off)
DEPARTMENT: Nursing Services
HIRING BONUS: $1,000 after 90 days

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Responsible for assisting as an endoscopy tech and anesthesia aide. Also responsible for assisting in admit and recovery, decontamination, room turnover, front desk duties and greeting patients, family members and others who arrive at the facility; handling incoming telephone calls; and directing visitors and calls as appropriate. Assist patients to and from car.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
Perform pre-operative EKGs for ASC patients.*
Perform pre-procedural COVID testing under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN).*
Assist with registration as needed. Duties include, but are not limited to: Greet patients, family members, vendors and other visitors to the facility. Direct them to proper person or location within the facility. Receive incoming calls and provide appropriate responses or directs calls to proper individuals for handling. Check-in and register patients as needed. Post surgical logs in Optime to assist in collections.
Assist with admission of patients as directed by RN. *
Provide support to anesthesia department in preparation for daily cases. Check carts, outdates, assure supply levels, plug in equipment. *
Assist with procedures as requested by the physician or RN. *
Set-up, assist and clean-up of rooms and equipment for endoscopy service. * Take appropriate precautions when assisting. Follow appropriate methods and manufacturers' instructions for cleaning and disinfection of endoscopes. Work with GI physicians in professional and courteous manner. Help to turnover rooms in timely fashion.
Assist with post-anesthesia recovery of patients as directed by RN. *
Remove IV's and help patients get dressed for discharge under the supervision of an RN. *
Uses appropriate use of PPE for patient care and other settings where required. *
Respond appropriately to emergency codes. *
Understand hazard risk and demonstrate complete understating of established emergency procedures for the Surgery Center. *
Restock and clean designated areas. *
Assist/float to other departments as needed including the Tigard Medical Office.
Attend staff meetings. *
Be an active participant in committees (i.e. Safety Committee, Infection Control). *
Participate in orienting new staff.
Reports incidences or issues through chain of command and maintain confidentiality. Complete all employee/patient incident documentation in a thorough and timely manner.*
Maintain regular, in person, work attendance and punctuality, as scheduled.*
Employees will not be discourteous or disrespectful to a customer or any member of the public while in the course and scope of company business.*
Work in a cooperative manner with management/supervision, coworkers, patients and vendors.*
Abide by company policies.*

REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma or equivalent Current CPR certification
EDUCATION/LICENSES PREFERRED: Current Medical Assistant Certification
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS PREFERRED: Basic understanding of Medical Terminology Basic understanding of infection control Organizational skills and ability to prioritize work flow Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations and to work under pressure Proficiency and legalities of charting and telephone conversations Compassionate, patient and tactful Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients and staff Proactive, independent, and accountable Proficient computer skills Values team success
