Pay Range

$21.85 - $32.80

Major Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates competency in providing inter-operative and intra-operative support for the surgical team. Competent in sheath pulling
  • Demonstrates competency in cleaning the outlying and internal structure of the Surgery Center.
  • Demonstrates competency in assisting the perioperative nurse in providing patient care when needed.
  • Demonstrates competency in serving as a resource person, acts as a preceptor for new STA I's
  • Demonstrates competency in safe transportation of patient to and from surgery in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates competency in the care of patients and families members.
  • Demonstrates competency in transporting specimen to the lab.
  • Demonstrates competency in dealing with difficult people.
  • Demonstrates competency in assisting with emergency situations.
  • Participates in supply chain analysis to improve efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Actively participates in educational activities to increase knowledge.
  • Actively participates in department meetings and provides input to improve efficiency and work flow in the OR through process improvement activities.

Education Required:

Minimum requirement High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience Required:

0-6 months depending on level of entry role.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Must be able to use visual near and distance acuity. Must have verbal ability to communicate in person and over the phone or radio. Must be able to assist co-workers in transfers and transport supplies, patients/residents, or equipment using good body mechanics. Must have functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with a grip strength of 60-80

pounds, specific to the job class evaluation. Must be able to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel and change from one position to the other rapidly. Must be able to lift 25-60 lbs. and carry 25-50 pounds specific to job class evaluation. Must be able to tolerate high noise, busy atmospheres and noxious odors. Must be able to work in noisy environments and be self directed to complete jobs as ordered. Must be able to remain calm under stressful situations. Must be able to assess and respond to multiple situations simultaneously. Must be able to assist co-workers in multiple overlapping tasks simultaneously. Must be able to prioritize job tasks and organize work space to be efficient and conducive to completing work tasks as assigned in a timely manner. If job class is identified as falling under POPE C, the individual must pass the cardiac recovery test.

Supports the perioperative team by assisting with patient care, surgical procedures, and daily operations within the surgery center. Provides intraoperative support (including sheath pulling as competent), assists nursing staff, and ensures a clean, safe, and well-stocked environment. Transports patients and specimens, responds to emergencies, and delivers courteous, compassionate care to patients and families. May serve as a preceptor and resource for new staff. Participates in process improvement, supply efficiency efforts, education, and department initiatives to enhance workflow and patient outcomes.
