Job Summary

The Transporter / Surgical Assistant is responsible for safely moving and transporting patients throughout the facility, to and from the surgery areas. Ensures patient comfort, safety, and confidentiality during transport, while maintaining effective communication with healthcare teams to facilitate patient care. This role performs basic operative assistance such as positioning patients, and assisting with room turnover.

Schedule: Full-Time, Days, Weekday and Weekend Call Required

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • 0-2 years of experience in a surgical, sterile processing, or patient care support role required
  • 1-2 years of experience supporting perioperative services or working in a surgical setting preferred
  • Must be within 30 minute arrival time, when on call

Licenses and Certifications

  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support required
  • CST - Certified Surgical Technologist preferred

Essential Functions

  • Transports patients safely between departments, maintaining patient comfort and dignity throughout the process.
  • Assists patients in and out of wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds, ensuring proper lifting techniques and use of equipment to prevent injury.
  • Communicates with nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare providers to coordinate and prioritize patient transport needs.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitized environment for transport equipment, adhering to infection control protocols.
  • Assists with the movement of medical equipment, supplies, and documents as needed to support the Surgery Department
