About Our Organization:

Our person centered services support people to live in their own homes, make choices about how they live, work in jobs of their choosing, and enjoy being part of their communities. We seek to further the human rights and empowerment of people with disabilities, and hire people who care about social justice and want to make a difference in the lives of others.

EBI has been named a winner of San Francisco Chronicle’s Top Workplaces Award for 2023, 2024, and 2025!

This role includes using your organizational and critical thinking skills to answer our Emergency Cellphone, answering questions, arranging coverage, and directly filling in for shifts with clients.

Work Schedule:

  • This is a full-time position, working 5 days per week, at 40 hours per week.
  • This role requires open availability 7 days per week (including mornings, evenings, overnights, and weekends).
  • The Specialist schedule will change every week based upon the client support needs and coverage needs.

Locations:

  • Requires travel throughout Alameda County.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license, a driving record that meets agency standards, auto insurance, and access to a vehicle.

Compensation:

  • $28.62 per hour.
  • In addition, Specialists would also receive a $75 stipend for each weekday when holding the Emergency Cell Phone for 24 hour periods, or $125 on weekend days!

Client Support Responsibilities:

  • Accessing community activities, such as volunteering, classes, etc.
  • Supporting people with activities of daily living

  • Emotional support and companionship
  • Meal planning and cooking meals
  • Grocery shopping and other errands
  • Light cleaning around their homes
  • Personal and intimate care (toileting and bathing)

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years experience working in the field of human services preferred.
  • Someone who has an understanding and commitment to the philosophy of inclusion, access and consumer-driven services.
  • Experience supporting individuals with disabilities is preferred.

Benefits:

  • Medical coverage for those working 30 hours a week or more, with two different providers for you to choose from.
  • Dental and vision coverage for both full-time and part-time staff.
  • Flexible Spending Account & Dependent Care FSA, Commuter, and Parking pre-tax benefits.
  • Voluntary Life, AD&D, Accident, Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity, and Pet Insurance.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) that include free mental health counseling sessions for you and members of your household.

  • Many opportunities for training so you can feel confident in the work you do and prepare for future career opportunities.
  • Paid sick leave for all employees, and paid vacation for full-time employees
  • Paid holidays for all Federal holidays.
  • Mileage reimbursement for on-the-job driving at the IRS rate.
  • EBI offers Additional Language Stipends for staff based on language fluency assessment and client/department/agency needs.

We believe in services that are flexible and change over time as people change.

Testimonials

“I have worked for EBI for 7 years. I am grateful to be part of an organization that shares my values on respecting the humanity of not only the wonderful community we serve, but also the humanity of those who serve. I am fulfilled as what I give is generously received by my clients and my fellow workers.”

– Nini Schouborg, SLS Community Living Assistant

“East Bay Innovations has become like a second family, always willing and ready to assist, instruct, and educate its employees. I have grown tremendously in the field of social work over the last two years and credit my advancements to the ongoing education and guidance we receive at East Bay Innovations.”

– Melissa Martinez, ILS Specialist

“Apart from the rewarding friendships I have formed with clients and co-workers this past year, my experiences in this position have been tremendously valuable during the medical school application cycle. In every medical school interview, people were interested in my work in the day program. The job gave me a unique perspective on healthcare as it pertains to disabled adults.

I think I am more comfortable around patients’ bodies than many of my peers, and I am grateful that as a future healthcare provider I’ll have awareness of disability rights and familiarity with the complex medical needs of a diverse patient base.

Working in a program like CDS would be great for people thinking about a career in medicine, physical therapy, or nursing, or who are interested in adaptive communication, adaptive sports, or disability rights activism. I cannot overstate how lucky I feel to have been a part of the CDS team!”

– Molly Kastner, CDS Community Living Assistant (and future doctor!)
