What You Will Accomplish:

As the New Product Introduction Quality Engineer, you will plan, coordinate, and implement the inspection and submission of custom injection molded products to our customers, from kickoff through production approval to ensure internal/external customer satisfaction.

What You Will Do:

  • Program advanced measuring equipment to generate First Article Inspection information.
  • Perform First Article Inspection utilizing standard quality measuring equipment.
  • Implement and oversee the APQP process, including PFMEAs, detailed inspection & control plans, and final submission.
  • Advocate and lead the execution of quality activities throughout the process development, verification, validation, design transfer, and release phases - ensuring compliance to regulations and standards.
  • Coordinate with other quality functions and report product risks through stage gates.
  • Provide technical advice to other team members to resolve quality related issues or problems.

Position Requirements:

  • Education: Associates Degree in Quality Engineering, Quality Management, or related field; Will consider combination of education/experience
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in quality-related field; Automotive industry preferred; Plastic Injec-tion Molding experience a plus
  • Certification(s): n/a
  • Functional Skills: Experience with Mechanical Measurement techniques; exceptionally detailed, analyti-cal, and thorough; Strong mathematic, algebra, and statistical skills; Solid understanding of PFMEAs and APQP; Strong problem-solving experience. Measurement equipment (CMM, Smartscope) programming experience a plus but will train the right person.
  • Technology Aptitude/Skills: Excellent Microsoft Office experience; ERP experience highly preferred
  • Language Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Leadership/Behaviors: Strong collaboration and influencing skills; Excellent work ethic; Someone who leads by example; Someone who takes initiative, is comfortable working independently, and is forward thinking.

Other Important Information:

Salary: Salary is commensurate with proven expertise.

Reports To: Quality Manager

Core Hours: 7:00am - 4:30pm (schedule can be flexible; will work around 9 hours within this timeframe)

Typical Work Week: M-F; some weekends required; 45 hours a week on average

Direct Reports: None

Work Conditions: Primarily an office environment with regular visits to Manufacturing environments.

Travel: Ability to travel to the Ironwood, MI facility to support new launch activities as required (estimated visits 1-2 per quarter but depends on assigned projects). Also, will travel to customers and selected vendors to sup-port quality related activities, once or twice yearly.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

About the Role: Ironwood Plastics is seeking a hands‑on 1st Shift Production Team Leader to oversee daily production operations, support team development, and drive performance in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost. This role is responsible for coordinating personnel, equipment, and workflow to meet production goals while fostering a positive, high‑performance culture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, coach, and develop production team members.
  • Monitor daily production activities to ensure targets are met.
  • Support and participate in Lean initiatives, 5S, and daily improvement (MDI).
  • Communicate effectively across departments and shifts.
  • Assist with scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Ensure adherence to quality systems, work standards, and safety procedures.
  • Lead problem‑solving efforts and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate labor and performance documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3-6 years of leadership or plastics manufacturing experience (or equivalent).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to use ERP systems (IQMS preferred).
  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.

Preferred:

  • Lean manufacturing experience (5S, 5 Why, Fishbone, 8D, Kaizen, etc.).
  • Experience with Standard Work or TWI methodologies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand, walk, reach, and perform manual tasks as needed.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 30 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Manufacturing environment with moderate noise; climate‑controlled areas.
  • Weekend work may be required based on customer needs.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

The Production Process Technician ensures that production jobs are running at the highest efficiencies possible using the best processing methods available. They work closely with all other team members to quickly and thoroughly resolve production issues using solid root cause analysis tools and techniques to troubleshoot. They apply corrective actions that will eliminate repeatability of problems. They install, perform start-up/commissioning, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a wide variety of industrial monitoring, metering, controlling and signaling devices used in the production of plastic parts

ACCOUNTABILITIES IN THE ROLE:

  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends as needed to support customer requirements.
  • Participates in daily schedule change decisions and provide necessary support.
  • Ensures production is running at set BOM standards for cycle times, scrap and efficiency
  • Ensure most robust processes are created and set for all jobs.
  • Utilize strong problem solving skills to completely determine root cause of issues.
  • Apply permanent and robust changes to eliminate root cause of problems.
  • Maintains, evaluates, and improves standard manufacturing and Process methods.
  • Provides technical assistance to the team in relation to process parameters and standard manufacturing methods, work instructions and processing.
  • Ensure use of only optimized processes
  • Perform tool set and pull by following guidelines in setup fill
  • Capable of trouble shooting EOAT/robotics problems
  • Any other duties that may be necessary to accomplish the goals of this position or goals of the company

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 3 years minimum experience in processing
  • Able to use Microsoft products (MSWord, PowerPoint, Excel) . Able to effectively use company ERP system (IQMS) in areas that pertain to your responsibilities.
  • Must be able to perform tool sets.
  • Basic trouble shooting skills for processing and robotics.
  • Understanding of Cavity Pressure. Able to Interpret and report graphs from the molding machines.
  • Must be able to write work instructions.
  • Basic tooling knowledge.
  • Systematic Molding with a minimum score 80%

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Both facilities are climate-controlled, with an outstanding safety record at over 1,550 consecutive days without last-time incident.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Product inspectors ensure that we send only acceptable parts to out customers. They perform two main functions: Inspections of product for visual and dimensional defects and machine operation.

ACCOUNTABILITIES IN THE ROLE:

  • Lead by example and perform in a manner that ensures high morale and high performance.
  • Inspire other employees to support company vision, mission, strategies (main things), goals and guiding principles.
  • Communicates effectively to all departments.
  • Ensure 55 goals for all areas are maintained.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures. AE Quality Systems procedures and work instructions are consistently followed.
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends as needed to support the goals at this position or goals of the company.
  • Any other duties that may be necessary to accomplish the goals of this position or goals of the company.
  • Visual inspection of parts.
  • Dimensional checking of parts.
  • Operate Presses in semi-operation mode.
  • Ensure machines are cycling properly at the lowest possible cycle time.
  • Operate secondary equipment as required.
  • Ensure materials needed at the press are socked (Raw materials, boxes, inserts, etc.), especially at shift change, without overstocking.
  • Ensure proper inventory of parts (perform shift counts, minimize overruns).
  • Quick response to Machine Alarms/Repairs.
  • Clean up at work areas.
  • Ensure that support personnel are notified of problems/questions.
  • Assists other shift personnel as needed.
  • Communicate all problems as needed.
  • Maintain job documentation.
  • Eligible employees may participate in profit sharing after six months of continuous employment.

HOURS:

The second shift operates from 10:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m. and includes a 10-minute paid rest break and a 30-minute unpaid meal break.

Full-Time

PAY:

$18.00 per hour
