Help

  • Serve as the DASG Shift Supervisor consisting of subordinate Security Guards and Lead Security Guards who are responsible for providing security measures against theft, fire, accident, pilferage, trespass, sabotage, and espionage.
  • Participate in antiterrorism committees and fusion cells to protect critical resources.
  • Use a variety of state-of-the-art physical security equipment to protect MOT national security assets from all threats to include waterborne, vehicle-borne, rail-borne and airborne to include drone technology.
  • Direct work for subordinate personnel to prevent or control threats, sabotage, hostage-taking, or other criminal activities.
  • Serve as Officer of the Guard and Supervisor for guard force shift to provide maximum security measures.
  • Conduct the inspection of posts and vehicles in all areas to ensure full compliance with security and safety measures.
  • Distribute and balance workload among employees to maintain workflow.
  • Perform waterside security patrols of U.S. Military and foreign ships at berth to prevent unauthorized entry.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • A pre-appointment and annual physical examination is required, and the candidate must pass all medical examinations.
  • The candidate must meet established hearing and vision standards.
  • The candidate must successfully pass physical agility tests in accordance with AR 190-56 and meet ongoing fitness standards.
  • The candidate is required to submit to drug testing urinalysis on a recurring basis, in accordance with AR 600-85.
  • The candidate must be able to carry firearms.
  • The candidate must pass periodic skill proficiency examinations and maintain current certifications in the use of firearms.
  • Must wear a uniform and may be required to use protective clothing or gear as necessary.
  • The candidate is required to work rotating shifts and outside of normal duty hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • The candidate must participate in regularly scheduled training in the techniques of use of force, counter-terrorism, first aid, CPR, firearms, search and seizure, and security operations.
  • This position is covered by the 1998 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 (18U.S.C. 922) Persons convicted of misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • The candidate must be able to fulfill the duties of an inclement weather essential position.
  • The candidate must possess a valid State and Government Driver's License to operate vehicles up to 1 1/2 tons.
  • Temporary duty (TDY) business travel to worldwide locations is required less than 10% of the time.
  • The candidate must be capable of heavy lifting in excess of 30 pounds.
  • The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain an Individual Reliability Program certification.
  • The candidate must possess the ability to swim.
  • A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Leading personnel in performing security functions such as, access control operations, safeguarding personnel, information, critical assets, and regulating pedestrian and vehicular traffic to ensure operations are completed correctly; 2) Providing guidance in areas of guard force training, based upon personnel performance and observation; AND 3) Assisting with personnel management operations, such as monitoring staff performance, reviewing available staffing level on daily shifts and proposing work assignments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

The OPM Qualification Standard identifies examples of experience, such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Conditions of Employment continued:

  • The candidate must obtain and retain one or more of the following U.S. Coast Guard licenses within one year of appointment: Small Boat Captain, Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV) License, U.S. Army Marine Certification in accordance with Chapter 5, AR 56-9, or a Military Ocean Terminal Harbor Patrol Coxswain appointment. Failure to meet these requirements could lead to disciplinary actions.
  • Within the first two years of appointment, boat crew members must complete a swim assessment, Basic Maritime Officers Course (BMOC), Advanced Basic Maritime Officers Course, Rescue Boat Operations Course, National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) courses - Basic Crew Member, Boat Search and Rescue, and Tactical Operator, as well as the Boat Safety Course and MOT personnel qualification standard. Failure to complete the training requirements may result in disciplinary actions.

The Army, as one of the three military departments (Army, Navy and Air Force) reporting to the Department of Defense, is composed of two distinct and equally important components: the active component and the reserve components. The reserve components are the United States Army Reserve and the Army National Guard.
