Description

We're hiring a Tool Crib Supervisor to oversee all tool crib operations, ensuring the availability, control, and optimization of tooling and consumable inventory to support uninterrupted production. This role also leads safety coordination efforts, ensures OSHA compliance, promotes a culture of safety, and supports continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.

Requirements

Tool Crib & Inventory Management

  • Manage day-to-day tool crib operations, including tool issuance, tracking, storage, and organization
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels through ERP/system control, cycle counts, and audits
  • Forecast tooling demand to support production schedules and prevent shortages
  • Implement inventory control best practices (min/max levels, Kanban, vendor-managed inventory where applicable)
  • Track tool usage, life cycles, and consumption trends to reduce waste and cost

Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Source, evaluate, and procure tooling, cutting tools, and related supplies
  • Obtain quotations, negotiate pricing, and manage supplier performance
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships and resolve delivery or quality issues
  • Track purchasing history and maintain standardized item master data

Tooling Optimization & Technical Support

  • Coordinate tooling repairs, regrinds, and replacement programs
  • Develop and maintain tooling standards (tool life, performance benchmarks)
  • Support machining and production teams with tooling recommendations and troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with Engineering to design and procure tooling, fixtures, and workholding solutions
  • Facilitate vendor demos and trials to improve efficiency and capability

Safety & Compliance Leadership

  • Lead OSHA safety programs, including annual training, recordkeeping, and audits
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, RCRA, HAZWOPER, and company safety policies
  • Promote a proactive safety culture and enforce safe work practices
  • Conduct safety inspections and participate in incident investigations
  • Ensure proper use and availability of PPE and safe handling of hazardous materials

Leadership & Operational Support

  • Supervise and develop tool crib personnel
  • Set priorities and schedules to meet production demands
  • Partner with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Scheduling teams
  • Monitor and manage tooling budgets and cost performance
  • Drive continuous improvement in tooling efficiency, cost reduction, and workflow

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • 3-5+ years of experience in a tool crib, tool room, or machining environment
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Experience in aerospace or precision manufacturing environments is strongly preferred

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of cutting tools, machining processes, and tooling systems
  • Inventory management and procurement experience
  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems
  • OSHA and safety compliance experience preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

Technical & Functional Skills

  • Ability to analyze data and generate reports (usage, cost, trends)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and inventory systems
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and handling tools
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs regularly and 50 lbs occasionally with assistance
  • Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving equipment, and chemicals
