Job Summary and QualificationsUnder the general supervision of the Director, the manager assumes responsibility for direction and coordination of all functions in the unit. IN collaboration with other members of the management team, this individual is responsible for the ongoing assessment of the quality and quantity of services performed by the Sterile Processing Department. Manager advises senior management regarding the status of the quality improvement processes in the department. The individual anticipates and estimates future needs of the unit to promote and improve quality of services provided to Surgery, Cath Lab, Emergency Room, FMS, Wound Care, nursing units and any other area needed. Collaborates and coordinates the efforts of the staff in the unit to accomplish the Mission and Values of the hospital. Dedicates 75% of the time engaged in clinical activities and 25% of the time engaged in managerial tasks. Assures that equipment and instruments are provided to all departments according to policies and procedures. Responsible for the operation and clinical activities within the department. Demonstrates knowledge of Quality Improvement processes. Demonstrates competence to instruct andmonitorstaff performance, implementplanof action and promote staffeduationand growth. Directs and promotes the practice within the department tomaintainhigh quality in all processes via validation and evaluation of practice standards. Interprets,inspectsandreviewspolicies and procedures with unit staff to ensure compliance with organization standards. Develops and prepares staff and self educationally, for change and improvement within the department. Manages andparticipatesin the competency evaluation process of SPD staff. Assures the preparation, packing and sterilization of instrument trays, instruments and packsfollowthe policy andprocedures, AAMI, AORN and any other standards applicable to SPD. Follows recommended standards and controls to ensure sterilizer loads are processed according to manufacturer's recommendations. Assures record logs aremaintainedas per policy. Assures proper cleaning and assembling of equipment. Manages decontamination, assembly,sterilizationandtimelydelivery of instruments and trays to user departments. Participates in Infection Control Committee activities. Ensures that work and storage areas are clean and orderly. Orders stock andspecial orderitems as needed. Manages the sterilization of instruments, equipment, surgicallinenand related supplies according to the manufacturer's instructions. Informs Bio-Med of equipment no longer serviceable and other problems that arise.
