SUMMARY
Under direction of the Assistant Director of Recreation, this individual in this position will assist in the following areas: supervision of facilities; planning, organizing, coordinating, promoting, directing well-balanced recreation programs and senior citizen programs , day camps and swimming programs; training and supervision of staff; hiring and evaluating staff; hiring and scheduling.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Establish and evaluate various recreation programs and classes. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
Complete payroll and complete other paperwork.
Collect and check timecards; and maintain employees attendance records.
Attend public speaking engagements and seminars on recreation topics.
Maintain frequent interaction with staff and lead weekly staff meetings to motivate and maintain positive attitudes.
Operate basic office equipment such as computer, typewriter, calculator, telephone, fax machine, and 2-way radio system.
Make independent decisions to resolve conflicts and take corrective action when necessary.
Develop and implement special events and programs without constant supervision; produce flyers to promote these events.
Adapt recreation programs to meet the needs of the community.
Introduce new programs, activities, equipment, and materials to the staff.
Interpret recreation services to the public, participate in organizational planning.
Work as a team with administrative or other professional personnel and local agencies, i.e.; the school board, Family & Youth Counseling, YMCA, and Literacy Council, to ensure that recreation programs are well balanced, coordinated, and integrated with special services and needs of the community.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Also directly supervises eight non-supervisory employees. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts using basic business math.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Must possess a valid Louisiana Drivers License and a L.R.P.A. membership and a
