What We're Looking For:
  • Education: 2 Year / Associate Degree, required. If applicant does not have a degree currently, an agreement to attain a degree within 3 years of start date will be required.  4 Year / Bachelors Degree, preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum five years Pharmacy Technician experience, required. Minimum two years Novant Health Pharmacy Technician experience, preferred. Previous leadership or supervisory experience, preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: PTCB, required. NCBOP Technician Registration, required.  A minimum of two specialized certificates/certifications from PTCB, ASHP or NBMTM (examples include but are not limited to product verification, medication history, hazardous drug management, billing/reimbursement, controlled substances diversion prevention, medication therapy management, sterile compounding)...or...one additional certificate/certification for technicians with Validating Tech credentials (NC), preferred.
  • Additional Skills (required):
    • State Registration and/or evidence of renewal is required for both Pharmacists and Technicians fifteen days prior to expiration and Technicians are required to be certified through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
    • Considerable knowledge and application of basic math skills (including ratio and proportion), strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Basic technology skills. Other duties as outlined in Novant Health and facility specific policies and procedures. Ability to drive/travel to multiple facilities/locations as needed. Ability to work as part of a high performing, change ready and resilient team.
    • Validating duties (NC only): must complete initial didactic and practical training prior to initial validation. Must obtain 99.7% accuracy rate on initial validation and 99% accuracy in subsequent audits.
    • Exhibits problem solving skills, leadership characteristics and effective ownership of additional activities or duties. Must demonstrate leadership by way of ensuring compliance, using analytics or taking ownership of key processes as defined by department or unit leader. Examples my include but are not limited to the following: coordination of orientation activities involving new hires or technician program students or 2nd year pharmacy school students; oversight of team member completion of competencies such as sterile compounding/chemo compounding/safe handling of hazardous drugs (orientation and annual); controlled substance audits (regulatory and proactive diversion); preparation of the department staffing schedule, etc.
  • Additional Skills (preferred):
    • Advanced PTCB Certification
    • Considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration, and adverse effects; the ability to demonstrate patient interview skills and strong written and verbal communication skills with other healthcare professionals. Experience with inventory management.
What You'll Do:

Essential functions include:

  • Participates in front line duties as needed such as medication distribution, controlled-substance accountability, medication listing activities and sterile compounding.
  • Oversees pharmacy operations and technician practice/activities.
  • Assists in the interviewing and selection process of technicians.
  • Participates in new employee onboarding and training for technicians
  • Completes technician competency assessments and provides real-time feedback on job performance.  Coaches team members to achieve success.  
  • Creates and maintains schedule for pharmacy technicians
  • Contributes to the goals of pharmacy leadership by timely completing projects and new initiatives.  Identifies opportunities to improve processes based on feedback and experience.  Communicates effectively with pharmacy leadership team.
  • Monitors and identifies opportunities to enhance productivity and efficiency in human and material resource utilization
  • Develops positive relationships and communicates effectively with team members.
  • Be a role model for the mission, vision and values through interactions with team members and patients.
