Overview

This role provides direct supervision and mentorship of pharmacy technicians while supporting safe, efficient, and compliant medication distribution. The Pharmacy Operations Supervisor ensures appropriate staffing and scheduling, promotes workflow efficiency, maintains regulatory compliance, and serves as a key liaison between pharmacy technicians and pharmacy leadership.

Schedule

  • Full-time
  • Primarily day shift, Monday-Friday
  • Occasional weekends, holidays, or off-shift coverage as needed to support departmental operations

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily pharmacy operational activities across centralized and decentralized services.
  • Provide direct leadership, coaching, and performance management for pharmacy technicians.
  • Coordinate technician staffing, scheduling, and workflow to ensure optimal patient care and safety.
  • Oversee purchasing, inventory control, and cost-savings initiatives, including compliance with DEA requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards (including Joint Commission, PA Department of Health, FDA, DEA, USP, and OSHA.
  • Maintain effective communication within the department and across hospital teams.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, competency validation, and ongoing professional development of staff.
  • Partner with pharmacy leadership to develop policies, procedures, and budget planning.
  • Oversee medication packaging, labeling, and distribution; continuously identify opportunities to improve quality and efficiency.

Preferred Experience

  • Pharmacy technician experience in an inpatient or health system setting
  • Prior supervisory or lead technician experience
  • Demonstrated experience with scheduling, workflow coordination, and technician competency oversight
  • Familiarity with sterile compounding and regulatory/compliance standards is a plus

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five (5 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, including at least two (2 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to support the development of departmental procedures and goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze operational issues, develop proposals, and oversee inventory control.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively with all levels of hospital staff, vendors, and nursing and medical teams.
  • Proven supervisory skills to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct the work of both professional and non‑professional staff.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Basic personal computer proficiency.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT required.
  • Act 34 (Pennsylvania Criminal History Clearance required, with ongoing renewal as applicable.
